Hasegawa 1/48 SAAB J35J Draken

I've been wanting to start this for a wile now and with my J22 build going downhill today a decided to get started on the Draken. Starting off with the nice Hasegawa kit.



It's a nice kit but some parts could need some more details like the wheels and seat. But I figured that it was worth to throw pretty much everything at it so i bought a few aftermarket parts. I still have a couple more coming.



Just a comparison of the resin cockpit and the kit one, the resin one adds a lot of details.







And after a little bit of cutting the cockpit is in place, the fit is pretty much perfect.



Also had time to cut off one of the landing gear bays, The resin one is beautiful. There is still a bit of cleanup where I cut off the parts and on the resin parts.

Finally spent some more time on this and got the cockpit painted. Started with MIG FS34079 and black, the back wall is painted AK True metal aluminium. Then detail painted and dry brushed using light grey and finally a black oil wash.

Spent a bit more time and managed to get the most of the fuselage together today. There is still a little bit of filler and sanding left but so far the kit is fitting together well.





All the resin bits so far have been fitting really well, but not the elevators/ailerons. There is a big gap, about 1.2 mm, that needs to be filled. Also the left and right side elevators aren't the same length so one of the needs to be sanded a bit.

Used some plastic sheets to fill the gaps between the elevators, worked pretty well and there is only a really small gap left. Also finished the assembly and rescribed all the panel lines.







Also started putting down some paint, Tamiya XF66 on the bottom and XF13 and XF17 on the top. Now I need to let this dry for a day or so before I start masking and paint the aluminium on the leading edges of the wings and the black nose. Will also do a bit of panel fading, especially on the dark blue.

Have added some post shading, just adding a few drops of white to the base colors, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's glossed and just waiting for the decals.

Decals, wash and flat coat is done, there is still a bit of detail painting left and the last couple of parts.















Also started working a small base for it.

Looking fantastic mate! How do the manufacturers get the resin flaps so wrong? Don't they even buy a kit and do a test build?
