masking and waiting times

Post by MarkVerploeg »

Hi guys
i have a bit of a question regarding painting and masking
i have a Hind on the go and for me to paint the cockpit i need to put several colors on there
i have the green/blue color on it and that looks okay but now it is time to mask some areas and paint stuff black
and grey
i usually wait a full day before i go any further and then mmask it and paint it
but how long do i have to wait before i can mask the paint
i use low tack tape and Mr hobby Aqueous paint along with Tamiya wich is the same kind of paint but if i have to wait a full day it kind of takes the fun out of it
so can i do the masking and painting faster then 1 color each day
thanks for the help
cheers

I just did my F-16 I used tamiya, I waited about 6h or so, Im going to do a wild guess here sence the surface is flat and has open pores faster dry time and when it lays down, it surface dry almost on impact, comparing to semi gloss paints. I was expecting Tamiya tape wuld "bite" more into a flat surface, but after advice from Paul, I masked it without glossing first. Anyway if your really careful taking off the maskingtape Im suspecting thats a big part of it.

I would still play it safe and wait the full day myself.
