Best 1/32 F-14D Tomcat kit

Post by Belphe »

Hi,

I'd like to build a 1/32 F-14D Tomcat and as far as I know there are ~4 kits available in this scale:

Revell 4770 (old and rare)
Tamiya 60313 ("recent")
Trumpeter 3201 (workhorse for many years?)
Trumpeter 3203 (true "D")

AFAIK, the last on the list is the only default "D" released so far. The others require modifications and conversions (which I don't mind). My only true requirement is for the model to be accurate and detailed. Unfortunately, I can't find any recent comparison articles about these kits. Therefore...

Could you please provide your feedback and suggestions on which of the kits above I should pick?

Thank you and regards -

The best two are the trump d and tamiya.

Both have accuracy issues. Intakes on trump and raised/imagined included detail on the tamiya. Xactomodels do upgrade for the trumpeter on air intakes. Cockpits are not great on either kit but the tamiya one is like something from the stone age.

When I did my research the trumpeter one stood far and above the tamiya. The tamiya is also prior to the f16c development moulding techniques which is what we all like.

Take your time and read the build reviews of the kits. If you want true detail you will need add ons for both kits. Neither one of them is that kind of accurate sadly.

My choice was trumpeter.

Definitely Trumpeter on this one. I tried to convert the Revell and it goes well until you get to the burners. The Revell ones are hard to cut out and the add on just do not look right.
