Tamiya 1/48 bf-109 E3 build!!!!

Hello everyone

My name is chad and I am a young modeller. I am coming out of the junior category as for I have only entered 3 models in my life and have won 1st in juniors category. I am advancing to the big peoples world in the modeling feild so if there's any tips on what I should do or any technique I should try please inform me I am more than happy to learn. In this topic I will be building Tamiya's bf109 e3 now I have to say for me being a young modeller I have been told I have a quite nice stash of model kits that are either just the kit with nothing in them or have goodies crammed in them for this I want to try out of the box this time and see how well I can master something out of the box. Having an uncle who judges at the shows I stay and learn things that teach me what 1 judges look for and 2 what the crowd looks for and I have seemed to understand this concept and apply it to my models to achieve something appealing to not only me but other people as me being a junior and not having any assistance but my hand me down model magazines and books to read well enough boring you It time to cut to the chase on this build

I have started this kit and I proceeded and built the cockpit and painted the interior also the wheelbays and adding a oil wash to it all for this being an earlier model aircraft the interiors were painted RLM 02 and I have done this by making a mixture with Tamiya paints and Tamiya clear to give it a sheen smooth finish after I painted all the buttons and highlights and dry brushed it and finished it off with a oil wash adding little streaks to the side panel walls and putting a clear pva in the instrument dials. Also seen at the bottom picture the landing gear was also painted RLM 02 and the hydraulic cylinders or painted chrome silver

Thank you every one for the comments . I have had a chance to build on the model this week. But I didn't do much fore there is not much left to do. We are really close to adding the primer and painting. From the last picture and post you seen there was no wings on it but I did assemble them to paint the wheel bays. So I glued the wings to the fuselage and the horizontal stabilizers for the tail section I also sanded and polished the seam lines then masked up the canopies and glued them in place with Tamiya cement. Following that I am asked up the center part therefore I am going to have the window open. For this I used of course tamiya tape and put a thin layer of mr hobby masking sol and flipped upside down to dry so no dust or hair is collected on it I also assembled the radiator intake and painted it I also like using a sharpie pen to make notes to not forget something. It is easily taking away with some sore of thinner

Hello everyone

I want to say thank you everyone for the support it strives me to the next level. I have been working on the model and from the last pictures you saw I had it almost ready for primer. I finished the radiators and put the flaps on and masked the undercarriage adding the counter weights for the
Ailerons and the Peto tube. I then sat for two days and thought about which primer I would use that I like the most and I debated between Vallejo and alclad grey primer/ micro-filler. I came up with the decision on alclad because I seem to like how it sprays out of my airbrush rather than Vallejo. Not only did I pick it because of the spray but the finish it gives me .it give more of a smoother finish and this show more imperfections that need to be fixed. Now how I said I like alclad better because of how it sprays. I have an infinity and I don't know for others if they get a different result with different airbrushes but if so tell me. Before I sprayed the primer down I put the propeller together and the wheels and I then sprayed the entire model with the alclad primer and let it dry over 24 hours for best results and so I can handle The model and look For any imperfections and the seem line running down the middle on both sides have tiny areas showing. How ever on these aircraft there was panel lines running down the middle top and bottom so I will be using dyno tape and my tamiya scriber and fix

Hello everyone here is another update of the 109. The last update you saw I had the primer on it ready for painting. Well I did get a chance finally to sit down and paint it and hopefully finish it within a few days. To start off with the model There is one thing I did want to say I bought the model air RLM color set from Vallejo. I started messing around spraying on plastic card and noticed that it was either spraying to thin or was clogging on my needle. So I did some research on Why it started to do this. I have heard before to mix it 50-50 with thinners and that's what I was doing. And after reading online it seems like most people do that also even though that it is designed to go straight in the airbrush without thinning. So I started messing around with it and came up with my solution no thinners at all just straight out the bottle and it sprays beautiful. While messing around I wanted to try adding Vallejo satin varnish in the paint so I put nine drops of satin varnish – three drops of thinner and the rest halfway in my color cup of paint. I mixed this very well and started to spray it and it sprays very nice and gives a smooth finish to the paint. So I figured I could start painting the model now since the RLM set is not a waste of my money. I first then painted the entire model with the Vallejo model air black for this gives my base colors a rich and a little darker color which I am pleased with after I sprayed the black I pulled out RLM 65 and sprayed the areas necessary for this color. Next I masked up areas I just sprayed getting it ready for the camouflage of RLM71 andRLM02. I sprayed the RLM 71 in the areas necessary for the camouflage pattern. I then mixed up XF 1 and X 22 and went over all the panel line creating a preshade I do this for the reason because I have more control. After I sprayed with the black mixture i built up in several light layers of the RLM71 to my liking. After this I masked up for the RLM 02 and applied the same process as I did with the RLM 71 after everything was done and sprayed I unmasked the model revealing my work. I was quite pleased with the way it looks.
After I unmasked the model and admiring it I pulled out the pledge future and sprayed two layers of clearcoat on it to protect the paint and get it ready for decal. While the clearcoat was drying I decided to paint the wheels and the prop and get them ready for a wash then a flat coat. The only thing left is to do the decals next.

Hello everyone im back with an update!! The last update I ended it with the clear coat getting it ready for decals and all that great weathering that brings a model to life. Well its time, I seemed to have really good luck with Tamiya's decal that were in the box. Everyone knows how tamiya decals are and there not that great there thick and they seem to not work well with mircosol and set. Im pleased on how they conformed to the model and gave me "the painted on look". I then gave the decals another clear cote to protect it for the weathering. This processes i created a simple wash anyone can make using MIG productions "Black" oil paint and thinned it down to my liking. Next i then wiped the excess wash away, my way i dont use thinners in my cloth for wiping it down In my thinking you loose a little of the wash if it rehydrated. So what i do is use a anti scratching cloth like for glasses and i go around and blend it in, in circular motions. For the next step I saved the black wash for later and ill show you why. For now I put down A Flat coat i have been using and really like, This is Testors Lacquer Dullcoat. I thin this 50/50 with thinners or you can spray it neat straight out of the bottle. This gives the model a true Flat finish. Next I then used AK interactive streaking grime and adding some streaking to the bottom and a little on the sides of the fuselage. Ok now This is when that black wash i created comes in handy. I took a soft round brush and i dipped it in the wash. Taking my airbrush just for the air I Blasted the tip of the brush in areas like were air comes out of the radiators to create a weathered look and I was really pleased on how it looks. (you can see what i mean if you look really close on the bottom of the wing after i put oil streaking and on the landing gear doors.) Next Using AK interactive again i used there engine oil and created oil streaks. I have to say i am really please how it has turned out so far for it being out of the box. Well I cant exactly say its finished so i Will leave you with this and the next update will be the finish model. For now i need to grab my airbrush and finish a few things. So for now happy modelling and take care
