1/48 SU-30M2 Flanker

Post by Liamcraven666 »

hi guys!
for the first time in a group build I've had a model ready in the stash :th: ,but... I decided to order some resin seats (which look lovely) and I've been waiting for them to arrive.
then a couple of days ago i realized that i needed to get some paint for the cockpit :wall: so i went out and bought some paint earlier today...
anyway here his the box.

Image
these are the resin seats i ordered , made by Aries

Image

the instructions are good , just good (sorry for the bad pictures)

time to open the box...
Image
...and we see a nicely presented upper fuselage half

Image
lower fuselage half

Image
another pic of the upper fuselage

Image
Image
the vertical stabilizers ,air-brakes and cockpit tub all of the parts (especially the tub) have great detail!

Image

decals printed by cartographer (nothing to say there)

Image

the fuselage front for the su30, and some cockpit parts

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

the clear parts are good , but do distort a bit.
but it will do

Image
the kits comes with photo-etch , always a plus

Image
There is a separate sheet for the painting and decals , the kit comes with Indonesian markings and four Russian markings;
red 10,red 30 and black 40

Image
the nose cone looks a bit strange to me  but it will work

Image

and in a bit of a strange order , some more spures.
wheels and wepons
and on to the resin seats...
Image
Image
not surprisingly the seats are brilliantly detailed and should liven up the cockpit quite a bit

Image

from looking at the parts the kit seems to be good , the panel lines and rivets are overall very crisp but can get quite shallow in some places :wall: but it should be an interesting build :th:
i'm looking forward to it.

first things first, I've mixed the strange looking greeny-blue cockpit colour. its not a perfect match but its good enough.: :thumb1:

(the actual paint is darker than the pic

The model went together very well! Only a small amount of filler was needed around the front end and some around the air intakes , ready for primer :th:

time to start base coating!

Image
I used tamiya 3mm tape

Image
...And some standard masking tape and maskol
Image
The colors are
Grey: Tamiya XF-19 (sky grey)
Light blue - Tamiya X-14 mixed about 50/50 with some white with some matt varnish added.
Medium blue- Tamiya X-14 mixed 25/75 with white (25-white)

The colour is quite off but it is close enough ! :th:
