Extended exhausts Tiger 1 initial

Post by RichardT »

Hi,
Does anyone know which way the slits on the extended exhausts of Tiger 100 of the 502nd heavy tank battalion faced.

Some modellers have the slits on these extended exhausts facing backwards and some modellers like dragons instructions have these slits facing forwards.

I originally placed them facing towards the front but then read David B comments on kit 6252
and placed them facing towards the outwards.

I think there is a photo of tiger 100 in winter camo showing the rear of the tank but can not
Find it.

Can a anyone help me on this - as I want to make my model reasonably accurate.

Cheers,
Richard

That's a wicked picture. Not Tiger 100 of course, but one of the first 502 Initials.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for your help great photo probably of no 3.

I contacted David B about no 100 because many modellers were showing these slits on the extended exhausts facing backwards.

David said the picture of no 100 was not clear but he would go for the slits front facing like in no 3.

This is what I am going to do - I just hope somewhere I have a third set of extended exhausts as I have ruined two sets.

What I did establish without any doubt from the pics of 100 once captured by the Russians is the flappers on top of the exhaust stack aligned inwards and these would probably not have been changed after capture. There are three possible alignments inwards, outwards and straight back.

I will post some pics of the completed model in the work in progress section probably this weekend as the diorama will take a while. Its not the greatest as I had real problems with the paint and weathering and ruined some of my hard edge camouflage but I have not seen another modeller on the forum post a version with the snorkel deployed.

Once again many thanks,

Cheers,
Richard
