Requesting Details on the Use of Alclad II Aqua Gloss

I've seen some reviews regarding Alclad II Aqua Gloss. I have to say I am very interested. I could use a few more details though, such as:

What is the best pressure to spray it at?

Does it require a thinner in order to spray it from an airbrush?

How quickly does it dry once applied

If you have used it, what are some of it's weaknesses?

No thinning needed, but make sure you clean your airbrush properly after using it, Ultimate airbrush cleaner works perfect

Its touch dry in a few minutes but leave overnight if weathering

Only weakness is if you overspray and flood the model it can fill detail in but any paint can do that

What Paul said.

I spray it at about 15psi and I'll weather over it after it's been dry for 2-4 hours... but I'm crazy.

I've yet to find a weakness, other than what Paul has already mentioned.

Yep 15 psi for me unthinned, it sprays equally well through a .2 or .4 nozzle, dry enough to fiddle about with after an hour or so. Don't shake the bottle though before you use it! It does say this on the bottle but I know some folk don't RTFM.

Read The F****** Manual. Applicable to any dork who buys something new (usually a car) then can't operate it properly becuase they never RTFM. My wife has had her car a while now and has never RTFM. Hence she will ask me 'How do you turn the foglights on?' etc. RTFM dear.

After trying Vallejo, AK, model master acryl, future floor polish, and Mig's stuff I can't recommend anything other than the alclad Aqua Gloss. The only one that has any similarity is the model master acryl gloss, but it's still far behind.

Once you've tried it, especially after trying some of the others yourself, you'll see what we mean. There is a vast difference.

I've just started using Alclad 2 ALC-313 Klear Kote Matte and so far good results.
I've also used Vallejo Matt with good results but whatever you do stay away from Humbrol Matt Clear (AC7434 125ml Bottle).

I use Testor's Dullcote myself.
Not the spray can, I use the bottles and mix 50/50 with lacquer thinner. Sometimes I'll thicken the mix to make it more flat.

I use the vallejo premium matt, sprays well out of the bottle and goes down flat, only other thing I've tried is tamiya flat and i brushed it on, needless to say i ended up with a winter washed boulton paul defiant!

I have some Testors Dullcote in the bottle, so I'll give that a go. I've got a little Japanese plane that will be ready for matte coat soon. I'll use it as a test bed. I'm just afraid of screwing up the F-105 I've been working so much on. Cheers!

I use either Micro Flat or Alcad Matte.

Second/third/fourth on letting dry for 24 hours - I glossed my Mill Falcon on Friday and Saturday nights, and come this Monday morning, its a nice shiny sheen ready for decals and weathering.

I use Windor & Newton UV Protected flat varnish. It is primarily used for artistic works but works wonderfully on plastic models. It's the best Mat I've ever used.

Just got 2 bottles of Aqua gloss. I thought it was an acrylic. I don't spray smelly stuff as I don't have a spray booth or means to clean out non acrylic stuff. Can you please advise if it will stink the house out and what to clean the airbrush with? Thanks.

I've been using water to clean it like it says on the bottle. I do however shoot a very small amount of isopropanal through my brush before putting it away after Aquagloss. As for the smell, there isn't really one. I spray in my garage without any type of ventilation system and it's fine. I'd reason to say, whatever cleaner you use on normal acrylics would probably work with Aquagloss.
