Let the weathering begin

First up was a coat of Model Master gloss acryl followed by the decals and then another coat of the gloss acryl over the decals.
Some chipping was then added using Model Master Burnt Umber acryl and a sponge.



After the decals and chipping, a few tarps were made from tissue paper. The tissue paper was wetted with thinned white glue and then rolled into shape. The tarp straps are made with Tamiya masking tape.





The tarps were painted up, then came a oil wash of Raw Umber/Black mix over the entire AFV.








Thats all for now, more weathering to do once the latest oil wash dries.

Unfortunately I do not have equipment to make videos, but I can certainly take more pics and try to describe the process in more detail with the next set of figures. You can view the attached link for more details on the paints and methods I've used for the figures. I used the same techniques described for the GI's from the Hetzer dio and the Russian tankers here.

We're getting closer to the finish line now

A good portion of the weathering is complete. After the initial raw umber/black oil paint wash, the next steps applied to the SU-76m were:
- Panel line wash (pin wash) using Mig Deep Brown,
- Oil paint shadows and highlights with black, burnt umber, blue, and lightened olive green. Darker colors concentrated in corners and outer edges with the lighter colors concentrated in open and center panels. The oil paints were blended similar to a wash using Turpenoid.
- Mig Streaking Grime was next,
- and then more oil paints, this time an oil "dot" filter using burnt umber, blue, white, and lightened olive green, and blended with Turpenoid.

The stretched sprue radio antenna was also added.
Up next will be a flat sealer coat, followed by the final weathering stages of mud and pigments

For me this is the proof that you can turn almost every kit into a masterpiece. It all depends on the work you're willing to put into it. Thus I like this kit here much more than the newest high end kit available. I even forgot the company's name! Very, very good job! Can't wait to see her finished, mate! Take care! Jens
