RPmodels 75 mm Major 'Blondie' Hasler

Post by rodrant »

Hi ,

this is my latest figure build , a fantastic resin model made by RPmodels ( It is a Portuguese company, so I'm very proud :-) )in 75 mm depicting the Catfish Canoe used in Operation Frankton in 1942 in WW2 , the padlers were MAjor 'Blondie' Hasler ( the guy behind the idea of the raid! ) and MArine Sparks , and the only survivors of 5 crews (actually there were 6 crews , but one didn't even start the raid ...) , the idea was to get this canoes in a Submarine near the Atlantic French coast, 'drop' the canoes and then paddle along the Gironde River until reach the Bordeaux Harbour and get a Big punch in German merchant Ships that go trough the blockade in Atlantic , they should carry some magnetic mines and place them in the ships hull ...rowing at night resting and gettin hiden by day , they managed to make some noise and even sunk one ship and damaging others...this type of operations get a blow in the moral of Germans as they thought to be safe in Fortress Europe !
Also a lot of learnings for therecons made before of D-Day !

If you want to know more on Operation Frankton check this site , it is great !

Thank you Michael ! You know, one of the things I enjoy in modelling , beside enjoying a lot doing it , is getting the historical background ( I think we all do that...) on the models you going to make , and in this case it is fascinating all the history around this raid ...those guys sure to have the guts to do what they did !
