Super colour slides of FAMO and Pz III just found

Post by OneSmallStep1966 »

These pictures dating from the winter of 1945/46 were recently posted on missing-lynx.com by Dan Mouritzsen.

Both belonged to 233 Pz. Div. in Denmark. A good subject for discussing colours and chipping.

Those are fantastic pics!
Finding non-colourised WWII photos is so hard. It's a treasure trove to find actual unaltered colour photos.
Though these pieces are far to weathered for inservice vehicles the colours look to be in excellent condition.

While i always find such pictures fascinating one also have to keep in mind that the colors are not necessarily genuine, because the colors on the photographs bleach as well over the decades. it is that brownish tint, so the pictures look a bit like the beholder wears some sunglasses.
Until time travel becomes possible we can rely only on that, which is good because we also gain some artistic license that way.

Michael Rinaldi commented on these photos in his Facebook feed in answer to someone who commented on how the colours may have changed with age.

QUOTE: 'These are pretty accurate I feel, some of the better color images in a long time to appear and nothing to implicate the tones are that dramatically off. Judging by the colors in the surrounding items, there is only some minor tinting from the film, and feel these are very worthwhile images to study. The time frame is useful too because it is only a few months after the war and it clearly shows the pale tones to the yellow, the brownish tone to the red brown camo, which is great to see, and the distinctive red primer that is not a camo color. Overall these are definitely valid images for our ref needs"

This doesn't mean the colours are perfect, but given Michael's exceptional artistic eye (particularly on this subject), I wouldn't bet against them being that far off.

Oh, nice!

It's very hard to resist messing a bit with these images. By the looks of it, it is winter (snow on the ground, hah) and you have the sky, bricks, the car (looks to be dark green, not an uncommon color those days!) all in a pretty varm tone, the sun is quite low in the winter months and it should be a more varm tone, so, everything looks to be quite ok color tone wise!
Everything is just a little pale which is quite easily "fixed"

Something like this.

Sure!

Looking at the images today I can see I went a little bit too far.
