And now for something completely different.


Kit arrived, contents loose in the box but not many parts so it should be a quick build.

No cockpit interior with the kit, so just sprayed black inside.


Sub-assemblies built, very little clean up work to do.


Exhaust nozzles painted Boltgun Metal (Ironbreaker). Air intake painted X-7 Red. Air intake filter painted XF-64 Red Brown.



Air intake, exhaust and fan fitted.


File locating pins down as per instructions to get a good fit.


Sprayed air intake splitter (Part 24), it's a snug fit, so it is being left off until masking of the intake, when it will be loosely placed on.


Wings glued to the fuselage, small amount of filler needed. Assembly is otherwise quick and painless.


Top quality products come from a clinically clean workshop. Organisation of this calibre could only be dreamed of by NASA.

Small amount of filler use on wing/fuselage joint.

Air intake and jet exhausts masked. The cockpit canopy has been masked, be very careful when fixing to aircraft. I lost it inside the plane twice but managed to get it out.

This is the part where I try out a new idea on paint weathering.


I spray the middle of each panel RLM 02.


So far, so good.


I then think that I should try spraying XF 23 Light Blue onto the outer edges of the panels.



My next coat of paint will be XF 25 Light Sea Grey




The next bit of painting is my artistic interpretation of the lower nose section and jet engine covering panels. I masked. then sprayed X 10 Gun Metal.

Looking good so far. By the way, is this those planes which dont actually fly but they glide over water ?

Yes, it does use ground effect to assist in take-off. According to the data from aircraft testing it is claimed it could reach an altitude of 3000 metres, though that is up for debate I'd think.

The model was then given a Dark Dirt wash all over.


Next a coat of Johnsons Klear was sprayed all over the model.


I then applied the kit decals and once dry gave another coat of Klear.


Grand designs for the weathering next. Masking off and spraying a mix of 50% XF68 and 50% of XF1.


Nato Brown and Flat Black.


With the same mix of paint I highlighted most of the panels on the aircraft. I painted and glued the few remaining parts onto the plane and gave the whole model a coat of Flat Clear. Done.

Voila.


Disaster strikes, masking tape pulls off a red star.


On the hunt for spare red stars that are the right size.



For more weathering I mix 70% XF25 and 30% XF2.
