1/48 - Mig-21MF "Fishbed J" Indian Air Force - Academy

Post by AndreFerro »

Hi guys!

Will show my last model built. It took quite a while the hole process, almost 6 months!!

The kit:
Image

The version I choosed: Indian Air Force! (I know... It´s a Mig-21Bis, but I liked the camo, for the painting challenge! I am not a rivet=counter)
Image

A nice resin ejection seat from Dreammodel, that I used...
Image

...which I already separete from it´s base, using a dremel & mask (too much dust!):
Image

Comparing with the original one that came with the kit...
Image

Cockpit parts off the sprues:
Image

Painted flat black:
Image
Image

Canopie and windshield in Future:
Image

and reserved:
Image

Nose radome painted with Hu101:
Image

After the flat-black on the Cockpit, was the time for this bloody 'Russian-Interior-Blue-Green'...
Image

as well as inside the fuselage:
Image

Ejection seat finished! I liked that !!
Image

Masks off on the pannel and cockpit, then some drybrushing with silver and detailing!
Image
Image

Cockpit installed on the front-fuselage section, as well as the radome:
Image

Front fuselage section closed:
Image

Time for the engine section painted with Tamiya dark iron:
Image
Image
Image

Antiglare section on the windshield:
Image

HUD screen with clear green and it´s console flat black:
Image
Image

Front section of the fuselage had a silver strip and canopy/windshield glued:
Image

Close-up:
Image

Jet exhaust with burned effects:
Image
Image

Wings> OK!!
Image

Attached to the fuselage:
Image

Puty and LOTS Of SANDING !!
Image

Aluminium used as 'primer'... Just a base coat!
Image
Image

Rubber Black on the wheels / tires:
Image

Same green on the radome, was used on the tailfinn and antennae:
Image
Image

and middle of the wheels:
Image

Rocket launchers UB-16 and UB-32 painted, as well as the preshading on the ventral tanks:
Image

Aluminium inside air-brake, wheel doors, landing gears:
Image
Image

Time for the pre-shading:
Image
Image

First shade of grey in the bottom:
Image

and up:
Image

Masking, and second shade of grey:
Image

More masking, and third shade of grey (not fifty!  )
Image

All Masks OFF:
Image
Image
Image
Image

After sealing with some Future, landing gears installed:
Image

But (and there is always a 'but') I forgot this small detail before decals:
Image

so... more masking:
Image

painting:
Image

masks off:
Image
quite ok!

General aspect, before decals!
Image

Grey on the small details (hidraulics):
Image

After decals and gloss varnish:
Image
Image
Image

Also bought some aftermarkets: Dreammodel Wheel-Choks and ladder!
Image

Which were assembled and painted red!
Image

Arms lock and loaded! AA-2 Attol IR Missile and UB-32 rocket launcher!
Image

Time for the Tarmac Base:
Round piece of styrofoam from a pizza :
Image

After some marking and preshading:
Image

The wooden base for the Tarmac:
Image

Some grey on it:
Image

Some earth for a 'garden'...
Image

and applied some 'grass' :
Image

Close-up:
Image

Styrofoam glued on the wooden base:
Image

Back to the plane: Wash applied:
Image
Image

Burnt exhaust jet in detail:
Image

Armed and dangerous:
Image
Image

Finally the canopie glued in open position !
Image

And the kit is ready:

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

well...
Image

Hope you liked !!
Thks for watching and happy modelling!

I have this model also. Brilliant build! I see you also had trouble with the seam in front of the windscreen. my tiny seam kept my Mig out of local completions. sad.
