Tamiya new Sherman Easy Eight

Post by Nige99 »

I've not been posting my builds on here, do to DIY projects at home so my modelling is extra slow!! Snail pace. So I didn't want to post in stages.

This is the kit, plus decals

Image

The kit goes together really well and builds like a Tasca with the hull.

Image

I wanted to remove the MG mount from the rear of the turret to in front of the gunners hatch.

Image

I also removed the lights and guards of the front glazier plate, so I can upgrade the armour.

Image

Image

My plan was to re-position the lights back on, but I seen a picture of a Easy Eight with them removed, so I went with that.

Image

Image

I also added armour to the sides.
Image

I bought the new Sherman crew and chicken wire

Image

I added a .30 cal to the commanders hatch

Nice improvements Nige.
Should be an excellent build buddy.
The sommerfield matting is a nice touch.

After priming I used Mig ammo Olive drab set

Image

Using Olive drab shadow for the sides

Image

And olive drab, and the shine for the highlights

Image

Next up the stowage. A mix of value gear and legend.
Image

I added the jacket as a war trophy!

Just the crew to paint now! Then the weathering up next.

Wow! This looks great! I built the Tamiya E8 shortly after it came out but mine can't even hold a candle to yours! Looking great!

Good stuff!! Really like the torch cut effect on the add-on armor and the Somerville matting.

I couldn't understand why you used the plexi on it instead of sheet styrene. Now that I see it painted up, it makes sense. It looks like something that would have been built and added on in the field to counter a threat.

Thanks for the comments lads, still lots more to do. The plexi was a right pain in the ass to work with and took 3 attempts on the frontal armour.
I didn't want it to look perfect, this armour was cut off knocked out tanks so marks and wear and tear is what I was after.

I thought the armour was to perfect on my Dragon Thunderbolt.
