the wookiees hole presents, eduard mig 21mfn weekend edition

Post by wookiee76 »

Hmm, lets see how this one goes with two things i don't get on well with, nmf and lots of decals!
From reviews and looking in the box it looks to be a nicely detailed kit, time will tell on how the fit is but we shall soon find out. Went for weekend over profipack mainly because i don't fancy trying to colour match the zoom set for the cockpit.

Oops, this thing is going together really easily and fast! Fit so far is superb with no flash or mould lines. Went with the decal for the intruments as i felt there was no way i could do anywhere near as good a job with paint.

Cockpit looks a beauty. That IP is gorgeous!

Also, the 21 is such an awesome shape. Looks like its going Mach 1 while its standing still.

Very nice
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

The cockpit colour i used is model air light sea blue, it is supposed to be a more greenish blue but i don't have one yet and didn't fancy trying to mix one up so went with what i had.

Main construction completed and everything fit superbly with minimal cleanup, no flash, blah, blah. Front undercarriage was fiddlier than i expected and I'm not sure it will stand up to much abuse, seat is made up of 18 parts of styrene but does look rather nice for a kit item.

Seat painted and belted, light drybrushing on the black with a silver and dark dirt to bring out the detail in the seat pad. Installed and given a coat of umplrez black.

Blimey that is going fast
Looks good though but did you had to bend the landing gear covers aswell
I noticed that in the instructions of my PMF build allthough i haven't reached that point of the build yet but i find it kind of exceptional that you have to bend styrene parts
Looking forward to some more of this build

They did need bending Mark but there is a score line in the correct place so it was very easy to do, you know me and the speed i build at lol, im trying to slow myself down, going to have to tank it next just so that the build portion takes longer!

Go build something with a huge amount of PE
I can assure you it will take all the speed down to a minimum

Once the primer had fully dried it was time for some variations on a black basing theme, the overall mottling is designed to give a general varied tone to the top coat whereas the white and black panels are to show replacements that offer different shades and ages, the red and blue are there to show some heat transfer from the engine.

Got the metal colour aluminium on, a little heavier than I was wanting but the mottles etc are visible in the right light and angle, the areas in white did show through to look like clean and new panels.
Next up is three sheets of decals!

After one long decal session i had a stroke of luck, settling down for stencil hell i happened to notice that they are only used for marking option b, which one had i chosen, yup option a thank some deity or other for that! Typical eduard decals too, perfectly registered, thin, came off the backing with ease and settled down beautifully.
ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Double glad i dodged those stencils though!

Picked out the panel lines with dark dirt, also rubbed some of it into the gloss to add dirt and depth, this has also brought back some of the tonal variation. Gave the exhaust area a coat of true metal iron and buffed that too then gave the gear and bays a wash of citadel nuln oil.
