Subject for next ISM Group Build....

Still not sure whether the next one will be 3 or 4 months, poll still running but, the next ISM Group Build will be.......

COLD WAR ERA 1947 - 1991
and will start on Saturday 14th September (1 week after WWII GB ends).

Again, this will be quite a generic group build where anyone can enter anything military pertaining to the cold war era. So, this will include aircraft, AFVs, floaty things, military vehicles, personnel, dioramas and even spacecraft...!!!

Subjects must be from either the Western Bloc (including NATO countries) or Eastern Bloc (including Warsaw Pact countries), no other countries can be included and the subject must have been in service during the time period of 1947 - 1991. As you can imagine, this gives you an almost endless amount of subjects to choose from and from many, many arenas.

As per all ISM GB's Models R Go will be sponsoring the Cold War ERA GB...

You have four weeks to choose and purchase a subject. In that time if you have any questions at all then please do not hesitate to ask. I will create the forums for the new GB once the WWII GB has finished....

I have no idea what ill be doing, but ill be doing something.

Ok i just had a little read up on this, i was always rubbish at history, am i right in thinking subjects form the Yom Kippur war will be eligible like my Tiran 5 tank?

1st placed i looked mate will look again and keep hunting if not ill find somethimg to do maybe a harrier or something really want to do a jet not really done one for a while so it would be a nice change. but ill keep looking

With the Yom Kippur war being the Arab countries and Israel I would imagine they wouldn't be eligible as none of them were NATO or Warsaw Pact, and the Tiran is an upgraded T55 with an L7 gun - standard T55 in Russian form would be fine I think. Be down to Lee I guess.

yeah two got built and 5 part built but because of a change of government (i think) that's as far as they got. Airfix did two kits one in 1:72 like a limited edition and a 1:48 kit that at the moment is going for about £50 but in the future will be looking out for one because it meant to be a very good kit, they flew of the selves when they were relased about 4 years ago so to find one now is quite rare.

I would say no to TSR2, Lee said it has to be something that was in service, TSR2 was never accepted into service, only prototypes were built.

I read an interesting theory today that the TSR2 was cancelled by the Labour government under pressure from the US, as the Aussies wanted to buy F-111's, then held off on a deal because they liked the look of the TSR2, so the Yanks made the Brits shelve it, so that the Aussies, and others would have to buy American F-111s.

I was considering the new tool 1/48 Gloster Javelin from Airfix, but although I have seen no release date yet, an online retailer has it up for pre-order with a dispatch date of 31/12/13, which I am hoping is just a place holder rather than an actual release date! I assume the former as Xtradecal have already released two alternative schemes.

If I can't get one of those in time, then it might be the 1/48 Airfix Lightning.

So I shopped around most of the afternoon and I've decided on a F-86F-30 CAF "Golden Hawks. You aircraft fellas are probably already familiar with the kit that I've ordered. It's a 1/32 by Kenetics.
I figure that it will be my official reintroduction into the aircraft world of scale modelling.
I built a F-86 back in the 70's so it will be a bit of a blast from the past.

If I can afford to get a kit to join in (still thinking about a figure too lol), I'd like to do something I haven't done before so I will try and get a 1/350 Typhoon class submarine. For me when I think of the cold war the first thing that comes into my head is The hunt for Red October.
So either a big Typhoon or if I can't get that then I'd get 2 1/700's a Typhoon and Los Angeles class and have the pair form the book/film.
Not the most exciting to build I imagine but something different for me.

Yeah the 9.13 was the 'Fat Backed' Fulcrum-C which flew in the 80's so that should be alright - love the look of those planes.
