MENG 1/35 T90 Dozer

Welcome to my build thread, In this build I will be attempting to build then Meng T-90 on a diorama in which the tank will be bulldozing through a wall. The diorama will be called "Knock Knock". Hopefully you all enjoy and Hopefully I do aswell

"The T-90 is a third-generation Russian battle tank that entered service in 1993. The tank is a moderate variation of the T-72B and incorporates many features found on the T-80U – it was originally called the T-72BU but was later renamed to T-90. It is the most advanced tank in service with Russian Ground Forces and the Naval Infantry. The T-90 uses a 125 mm 2A46 smoothbore main gun, the 1A45T fire-control system, an uprated engine, and thermal sights. Standard protective measures include a blend of steel, composite armour, smoke dischargers, Kontakt-5 explosive-reactive armour, laser warning receivers, Nakidka camouflage and the Shtora infrared ATGM jamming system. The EMT-7 electromagnetic pulse (EMP) creator has been used in testing but not fitted to T-90s in active service.[6] It was designed and built by Uralvagonzavod, in Nizhny Tagil, Russia. Since 2011, the Russian armed forces have ceased any further orders for the T-90, and are instead anticipating the development of the T-14 Armata that is expected to enter service in 2016"


So today (quite delayed) I begin the Meng T-90 Dozer for the From Russia With Love build a kit a bought of Paul and really cant wait to get into it



This kit really is packed full of plastic and rubber, this kit even comes with a lighting kit for the Infrared dazzlers. This kit really is worth the money. a few seem lines hear and there but that is modelling and there really is not complaints. It was this or the trumpeter kit and this one just stood out more

Lots of very nice detailed steps to the instructions. clear and easy to follow and come in a nice book





















What is really nice is the coloured paint schemes that are available for you to make. many different versions of the tank, in different campaigns and events. such as the last one is the tank celebration day. But I will be doing the first scheme. the tri-tone camo. which was stationed in the Siberian military district.









it is nice that meng give a accurate colour reference chart but I wish that it was in more than just vellejo paint, as i use tamiya and mr hobby aqueous paint. also the akan paints are very accurate for russian vehcles

So building the wheels started tonight. Has to be said that wheels and suspension on armour isn't my favourite part of building but it has to be done and if you get stuck in it can be actually quite fun and look nice.



It looks like alot of plastic but the wheels were spread about 7 different sprue's.



the wheels are beautiful and really well detailed. yes there are seem lines but that is a given on wheels.





It might look like alot a spure is still left on the wheels but that is just sanded plastic. its actually silky smooth.

and after a bit of time and effort all the wheels and driving gear is complete for the T90

Suspension on the lower hull begins. Luckily this kit comes with a Jig. VERY helpful I might add. keeps all the wheels perfectly aligned.





Test and dry fit of the wheels just to see how well it all aligns and if they are all flush



AAAANNNNDD just to round up the night, I spill 1/4 bottle of TET on the fairly new and clean cutting mat

Going to skip ahead a little whilst the glue cures. Now I have moved on to the turret itself. very strange look in comparison to other modern tanks. But has to be said, It has very nice detail and has a metal casting mould. This one in comparison to the trumpeter kit, if you get the photo=etch set for the turret you have to put down lots and lots of tiny pieces of PE. this one has the parts moulded on. Yes the detail wont be as pronounce, but its looks very nice all the same.



This turret comes with rubberised sprue's. This represents the anti radiation material that the tank was coated in. a little bit of hard work to put down due to its rubbery nature.



Completing some upper hull work. not too many part on the hull surprisingly when you look at the t90.



Getting the 2 main parts to the gun barrel together



Moving on to the tracks. Luckily it comes with a jig so making the tracks is much easier and faster



each single sprue has 2 track links each on them. nearly no clean up was needed as the sprue was very thin. in the lower pictures I show just how the Jog works and how it assembles them into links of 6, Then you need to make 96 links for each side of the tank.









Well after all the work on these, I have decided that I am going to invest in some Friulmodel tracks. I wasnt so happy with the result in these

Sooo. jumping ahead and starting the Diorama and getting the smashed walls made







I really like to make grass using the Army painters battlfields grass. great stuff and looks to scale.



Doesn't look all that but once done, it should look the business. I used filler and cut up tamiya wall to make the rubble.



Tank nearing completion but still a long way to go until the finished product. And not long till finish date

Only a little bit of modelling today. Got the rubble painted black then different tones of grey, Then painted the bricks red again so they stand out. then dry-brushed for a little more detail. Then using concrete wash over it all to dull it down and just to give it concrete dust effect.



Then using a mix of PVA glue and mig pigments you can great a good mud effect. using this I then mixed this with static grass. giving an abandoned moody grass look. This look is not completed. this is just the first layer.
