New from Belgium

Post by dacianb »

Hi all,
and happy to find an international modeling forum. I am 40 and very new to this.
On short, my modeling related life started as a kid next to my grandfather as he build some large and amazing train dioramas.
Nothing else happened for long years, until last year my daughter saw a model kit in a toy store and wanted one to try. Of course, we bought 2 and made a competition :). Then the virus catched me. I bought a second kit and looked a bit better. I started reading around and learning then I bought a cheap airbrush and more paints and tools and now I am working hard on my first "serious" model. Of course, is far by any models I saw around, but is a great learning tool. Probably the next one will be even better.
I have to admit that modeling is not my top hobby, as I own since long years coral reef tanks - but even those are amazing, complicated and require ultra high level of attention and chemistry / equipment tuning, takes something like 1-2 hours / week from my time. Other than that, I have plenty of time to spend on models :).
My main concern is that vapors from gluing / airbrushing to not interact with water from tank as can wipe out corals worth tons of money, but I added some special carbon filters into water capable to filter out eventual chemical contamination

As interest on modeling, probably I will stay into WWII era - vehicles and airplanes.
Thanks in advance for future support and replies to my eventual questions :)

:hi: Hello, Bonjour, Hallo and :welcome: to ISM. In reaction to your concerns and the investment in the salt water aquariums it might also be worth looking into a good extraction unit to remove the paint mist from the room.

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.
