AMPS/IPMS Show Categories

Hey all,

This may be a silly question so I apologize in advance. I'm looking to start entering some competitions towards the end of this year, specifically ArmorCon here in Connecticut in September. Trying to plan my builds around some of the categories. I guess my question to those of you who have entered in the past is who decides which category your entry is placed into? Is it the entrant or the judges?

What's throwing me off is for instance does a tank with a couple of figures on a base get entered into the main armor category specific to that era or would it be a vignette or diorama category?

Also they seem to have different skill levels to each category. Beginner, intermediate etc. who decides which skill group your entry falls into?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can shed any light on this. I haven't been able to find any satisfactory answers on the convention website or on AMPS.
