Build #6 Tamiya 14075 1:12 scale Yamaha YZR500 (OW70) ON THE BENCH

Post by TheSmoo »

- ALMOST COMPLETE - another of Tamiya's earlier kits which is still available, This will be my 6th Tamiya bike build since I started back into modelling, all hand painted with Tamiya acrylics and TS-26 Pure white on bodywork with TS-8 italian red on the front mudguard.

Abosolutely loved the build on this bike with the nice detailing etc, got all the bodywork sprayed up just nice and then got to the goddam awful really thick Tamiya decals which are murder to work with and have been at it for nearly a month with decal softners etc, going to have to touch up some of the decals with paint so what turned out to be a very promising build has dissapointed me somewhat with the poor quality decals.

Not an expensive kit, it retails at around £25.00.

I have all the pictures here from the original box opening right up untill the bodywork then it stops (until I get the decalling sorted) To be continued........

All the bit's and bobs you get with the kit, looks crazy at first untill you sit down and plan your build if you haven't done a bike before
Image
I tend to hand paint all the smaller detail parts on the sprues before snipping them off and touching them up and then building into lots of sub assemblies
Image
to the left of the picture the V4 engine has been put into the frame, bottom right the 4 exhaust expansion chambers painted and assembled and to the top of the picture the rear swingarm assembly
Image
rear shock absorber fitted and am following the Tamiya painting guidlines until I practice a few new detailing techniques off of some of the pro's I have been watching on youtube, I'm getting there with my detail painting though
Image
adding all the spark plug HT leads and getting some of the fiddly bits touched up
Image
I love the weld detail on the brushed aluminium frame which I just hand painted as I don't have an airbrush yet
Image
just another view from the top
Image
time to fit the radiator
Image
and then the rear swingarm and wheel into the frame
Image
left side showing the chain and sprocket
Image
fitting the first two exhaust expansion chambers to the bike, two stroke bikes have welded seams so no need to remove these they look good to me
Image
thats the bottom two done vroom vroom, can smell the two stroke already
Image
and on with the top two exhaust expansion chambers... I can hear the "briing ding ding" of a two stroke from my youth already
Image
what a beasty of a bike this would have been in real life, you might just be able to make out the fairing and tank top left of the picture all painted up and ready for decals, ignore the yellow stuff as I had another build running at the same time.
Image
just admiring the 4 exhausts of this V4 two stroke again
Image
Ok front end on and still loving the build front mudguard is Italian red TS28 from Tamiya, also added the basic rev counter and temperature guage decals
Image
bad lighting (red showing pink again) but looking gorgeous
Image

I have all the body panels beautifully sprayed using Tamiya TS-26 pure white but hit the decal gremlins so the build stops here for now....To be continued..........
