Tail Sitters

Post by Cymru »

I'm going to be building a potential "tail sitter" and I was thinking about the weight that must be added up front. I've seen products like Liquid Gravity & Lead Putty, but what stuff do you guys use???

I think you mean a tricycle gear, tail sitters wouldn't need weight in the nose.

I think he means a tricycle gear that sits on its tail when built as a model. I generally use fishing weights and ca glue but I also have stuff called 'Three Greens' which is like a lead putty that you can use for odd shaped spaces where you can't get a fishing weight in.
Regards, Dave.

There's a guy on here uses 7.62 AK47 rifle rounds but they might be bit hard to come by in Wales!

Can't think of anything better than fishing weights and lead putty. Ball bearings would be high on this list along with small stones from the garden.

Can we guess the plane? P38? B25? Me262?
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

I got a 10 strip pack of these wheel balance weights of flea bay for £1.99 with free P&P a while ago. They're adhesive backed and have 4 x 5g and 10g per strip, 60g per strip.

Or nip into your local garage and see if the owner would give you a handful from the 'bucket' when they clip of the old weights when changing tyres! Hope this helps.

Indeed, I've plenty of boxes of shotgun rounds but no 7.62 :pistols:

The kit is the Arado Ar 196B :th:

Thanks Derek, there is a tyre place right next door to my work :th:

I use flat lead sheet from the local DIY store. It is used here on roofs to make a seal between the bricks and roof tiles or bitumen felt.

As Always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene

I got some lead weights from the tyre fitters & there grand for bigger spaces but I thought I would give this a go Liquid Gravity for those smaller cavities. I'll let you know how it goes.

I bought a bag of lead shot from a scuba diving supplier off of Ebay. I think I paid about £5 for a kilo a few years back and still have most of it.

Slightly off topic: no matter how many times I see those two words together, "tail sitters," my brain inserts an extra "h."
