First post and first build : 1:48 Airfix Bf109

Post by Breddy »

Hi all,

Chris here from Geelong, Australia. New to modelling. I've gone ahead and built a 1:48 Airfix Bf109 and I post the pictures below. A few mishaps along the way, still learning to control the airbrush, some painting mistakes and lost a few small decals, and some lifting of the german cross decal on the upper side of the right wing, but all up, I don't think it looks horrible for a first attempt... :)

Tamiya and Mr. Hobby paints
Air logic airbrush (just bought an evolution though)
AK gray primer
Future for gloss coats and a mix of future and Tamiya flat base for a flattish finish
Perfect putty, tamiya extra thin

As always, feedback is most certainly welcome :)

Came out well for your first build! Your preshading is a a little thick. Try to have tighter control with your airbrush. Other than that you did well.

A far sight better than my first build :th:

The canopy and the dirty nose look especially good!

I can foresee some great stuff from you in the future..........

Great result. I hope you're pretty chuffed with your build.

I think it looks fantastic. If my planes come out half as good as that one I am happy. Keep it up.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I think the photos are kind, they don't show up some of the paint blemishes, some crooked scribing etc

But one of the things I love about this is.... It doesn't matter! If you make a few mistakes, who cares? Go back and correct or learn for the next one :) that's why I do this - it's relaxing, mindful and making mistakes is ok! :)

For me it's the process. As you said, it's relaxing. The end result is what it is, but it's the creation of it that matters.

You don't wake up one morning and say "I'm going to run a marathon RIGHT NOW!" You say "I'm going to train for a marathon RIGHT NOW."

There's a difference :)

Hey mate,
I'm in Brissie and also doing my first model, a tank, but if it turns out half as good as yours I'd be happy.

hi mate, nice to see another aussie around here. Are you going to the model expo in exactly a week's time?
Anyhow, that is a nice first model mate, good job and keep at it
