How many models do you build a year - on average?

Post by TheTroyster »

Yep, are you building 1 or 100 models a year?

And do more builds mean the quality is lacking?

I ask this because I dont think I am some model building manic and yet I seem to knock off two to four a month - 24 to 48 a year. Some are bad, others are very bad, most are good, some are very good, and maybe one a year is better than the others.

Don't worry Scott... Me too buddy, me too!..
It's not for the want to do more, it's the time management and worry of working more than one or two kits at a time.
I work from the kitchen side so every little piece or model type action needs putting away upon the close of model time!..
Also having a 22month into everything baby girl around my ankles while modelling means extra care is always needed.
Sharps, poisons, glues and small parts makes model time a very stressful time.
I need to model more and worry less.... Lol...
All the best guys.. :thumb1:

Lol..... I got about 15 years worth at my current build rate.... Give or take my usual loss of mojo and occasional use of junk and styrene sheet for building.. Lol..

Too few to keep my stash from growing out of control and too many to have any space to put them.

It usually ends up being around 12-15 per year.

For some reason the number of models I make is inversely proportional to the level of petty crime in my local area.

No idea why.

If I had any, I wouldn't sell it, I'd have more than 6 done...

Oh yeah, 6. But three were identical, and egg planes. So really it's like 4.

2015 was a busy year for me! I focused on dioramas mainly. I made only few stand alone pieces, mostly planes and figures. Vehicles were usually incorporated into a diorama.
So my stats refer to everything individually.

Vehicles/planes: 20
Dioramas: 12
Figures: 52

I don´t think it really affects my quality, i simply can not do better as i do. I enjoy a medium steady pace more than a slacking super-considerate pace.

I disagree
You get your kit and give'er, get it done. I totally respect that.
Don't sell yourself short quality wise either, seen some real nice builds and dioramas come off your bench
We are all different in likes, life duties, work responsibilities and speed of build.
Different horses for different courses.

I get up so early - and after going to the gym, I usually have a good hour and half to two hours before I head off to my store. Plus, I love building in the morning - nothing better than a Protein shake, pot of coffee, and the smell of extra thin glue before work.

Last year was somewhere in the high 60s, this year I'm looking to half that, combination of more involved larger kits and going into more detail with paint and weathering. Planes always take me longer than tanks though, more of a build it and then paint it kinda guy.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.

I only really got back in to building a year and a half ago, I think in that time I've built maybe 5. So 2.5 a year? This year the pace picked up slightly, doing the From Russia with Love GB motivated me to finish that build in record time (for me!)

Maybe it means he buys 600 a year. According to my math regarding my build/buy ratio...

I normally get in and hour or two in the evenings and as much as I can handle at the weekends as long as other people aren't intruding on my me time.

I've done eight so far this year. About to finish another one here in the next week or two. My modeling comes in spurts. Some months I'm so busy with work I almost forget to sleep and eat. Other times, I'm so bored I don't know what to do with myself.
