Post by Madmattmodels89 »

Hello everybody Matt here. Just wanted to post some pics of the model I'm building with my son. It's the Monogram kit of the M4A1 Sherman "screaming Mimi"

It's a straight out the box build , I only have the painted stages pics available didn't took any of the actual build.

Right now I still need to clear coat finish the tracks add mud and dust with pigments and build the diorama base.

This is my first model in more than 8years so I'm a bit rusted (pun intended) and I need to catch up with the new weathering technique :o

Comments and criticism welcome! 8-)

More updates to come

Sincerely Matt :hi:

Nice job. I have a real soft spot for that kit. It was the first armor kit I ever built back in '76, and the second kit I built when I got back into the hobby a couple years ago. I also just finished the Panzer IV in the same series... had a lot of fun with that one as well.

Thanks for the kind comments! Ok here an update.

I carried on with the weathering and since I literally suck at making rust I tried to find new methods to properly recreate the effect. Well I came across this...

Image

And ended up with this...

Image

Interesting huh? Well it happened kinda like this..
Put primer in the areas I wanted to rust. Let dry.
Added liquid metal (stage 2) let dry.
Added rust maker liquid (in 2 separate applications, let dry in between coats) and then simply watched it rust!

The effect can be modified by lowering the amount of both liquid iron and rust maker accordingly. Lighter application (rain run off rust) heavier application (completely rusted pannel)

Here some pics let me know what you guys think! I also finished the tank I will now build the diorama. I need to make some storages and tarps !

That's one nicely weathered tank, great job!
Where did you get those weathering liquids, they look great.

Started on the diorama base! My son was helping me with the stones layout, he position them like that! Put some dirt on and I'm waiting for it to dry, then more dirt some trees grass and some figurines

The title of the diorama will be " The Last Scream".

That's cool, only thing I would like to see is the figure, It's a classic, dude, I thought back then it had a real life look to it, I was a kid, but I liked that carbine and the way it was posed. Again cool build.

Nice work. always preferred dioramas to be in frames instead of on them
