Hot glue and styrene

Howdy,

I'm building a pair of models to use as briefing sticks. My question is how to best attach these models to sticks. My first idea is to attach via hot glue and shoving a dowel rod up an tailpipe nozzle. Would this melt the styrene? Anyone have experience with this?

The models will be built clean with the wheels in the well and as sturdy as I can make them. Finite detail is not as important as sturdiness and longevity. But if I fail terribly, the models only cost a few dollars each and I already have all the other materials in hand.

I'm, making a Kfir and F/A-18F in 1/72 if that matters.
