Eduard 1/48 SBD-5 dauntless

Post by NorthernModeller »

So this is my entry to the Pacific theatre of operation GB. My reason for this build is simple. ITS A DAUNTLESS.

A little history of the aircraft.

The Douglas SBD Dauntless was a World War II American naval scout plane and dive bomber that was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft from 1940 through 1944. The SBD ("Scout Bomber Douglas") was the United States Navy's main carrier-borne scout plane and dive bomber from mid-1940 through mid-1944. The SBD was also flown by the United States Marine Corps, both from land air bases and aircraft carriers. The SBD is best remembered as the bomber that delivered the fatal blows to the Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway in June 1942.

During its combat service, the SBD was an excellent naval scout plane and dive bomber. It possessed long range, good handling characteristics, manoeuvrability, potent bomb load, great diving characteristics, good defensive armament and ruggedness. One land-based variant of the SBD — in omitting the arrestor hook — was purpose-built for the U.S. Army Air Forces, as the A-24 Banshee.

So this is the kit and some of the goodies you get inside

What i love about Eduard limited editions and profipacks, is that you get PE and sometimes Resin. plus the mask set for the canopy. and on this kit. It is really needed.

I find this a pretty challenging kit as i am building it already for this gb
The cockpit has tons of details but the fit isn't always the best
Atleast the way some parts are connected to eachother
But my biggest suprise was the size of the plane
It is much smaller then i thought it would be
If i wanted to push a part in place in the cockpit i had to use tweezers as it was too small to even get my pinky in there
Best of luck with the build
Cheers
