Trumpeter 1:35, KV-2

Post by wavelet »

Trumpeter 1:35, Russian KV-2 Tank (#00312)

OOB + RBmodels metal gun barrel (35B44)

It will be built as a vehicle from the 2nd production batch of 100 KV-2 Model 1940s, manufactured in May-June 1941.

(Features: Late type stowage boxes will be used and placed in correct fender positions, late pattern tow cables and late pattern radiator intake screens will be used, central inspection port will be omitted, etc.)

Since the barrel is approximately 3mm too short, it will be replaced by an RB-Model metal gun barrel (35B44). (I would have preferred a Jordi Rubio (TG-79) metal gun barrel, but I couldn't get one!)

Very fast build, nice and crisp details. It requires some care in removing the flash in some delicate parts and needs filler in few places. Very enjoyable build. Highly recommended!

The rough edges on the turret have been enhanced and added in the missing places. Also added on the lower hull.
(Just used tamiya cement, the orange box, and the tip of #11 xacto knife.)

The fenders and wheels have been temporarily placed, the machine gun barrels have been drilled out, connection to the horn has been made, and the gun metal barrel has been attached.

The tracks have been cleaned (mr dissolved putty has been used for the ejector pin marks, then lightly sanded), and have been carefully placed on the wheels. Once dry, they will be removed (2 pieces in each side) - painting and weathering them separately.

Fenders and boxes have been glued. The tow cable (I will only include one) is not fixed yet. I will paint and weathering it separately.

I think I'm almost ready to apply some coats of primer!

The model was carefully cleaned (fingerprints, extra glue, etc.) with a cloth moistened with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and the metal cannon was primed with mr. metal primer. Also, the fenders, in some places, were altered with the help of a chain nose plier.

Then (defying the heat!), I primed the whole model (Vallejo, Black) and applied the basic color (Vallejo, Russian Green, 4BO set).

Thanks a lot for your very nice comments. Hope to be able to post my progress soon.
I would also like to build the same kit with the Aber PE set, since you can do very realistic damages on the fenders and have some of the boxes open!

White Camo (4BO, Chipping Fluid, Matt White).

I'm satisfied!

Next Step: satin varnish, filters, paint rendering with enamel and acrylic colors (white, green), pin washes.

Finished!

I had an accident with the plastic (link and length) tracks, so I couldn't help but to use the crap vinyl ones. In any case, it was just a practice kit for white camo, I learned many things, and hope to build a better one in the future with the Aber PE set and the Friulmodel metal tracks!.

Hope you like it!

Awesome build. Love the very well used and worn look. on the kit itself, how did it go together? it looks like some filler but not sure, if that's putty filler to enhance weld seams, or fill gaps. Again great build.
