Storage of Finished Models???

Post by Warren »

Gentlemen,
I am returning to modeling after 30 years, and I want to get an idea of where you physically store your finished models. In my prior modeling days
I had a small den (former spare bedroom) where I kept my finished models, many hanging from the ceiling! None of this was to my wife's liking.
My workshop will be in my former darkroom in my garage. There is no way that she will agree to bringing finished models into the house. After 47 years of marriage I learned what battles to fight. This is not one.

Where, and how do you store your finished models?

Thanks.

My son is still at the age where he likes the aircraft hung from his ceiling. On the car and bike front I bought some cheap shelves from Ikea, which although cheap look very good.
On the bench/cupboard are a Yamaha YZR-M1 Estoril, Honda RC213V Repsol, Revell Ferrari 458 Italia, Aoshima Lambo Aventador Roadster, Revell VW Golf....... The list goes on

I give most of mine away but I do have a seven shelf display unit for my keepers. I build 1/48 aircraft and can get about 25 models in it plus a few on top. I think it was about £160 from Argos.
Regards, Dave.

I looked at that ikea case and for me living in a dusty environment. I don't believe it would be any good to me as there are large gaps for dust to enter around the doors.

It can be dust proofed easily:

I figured you might be more concerned about venomous snakes, venomous spiders, venomous insects, crocodiles, plagues of mice, plagues of rabbits, plagues of locusts, ex-wifes and an invasion from New Zealand, but if dust is the top of your list, there's your cure. :th:

I just hacked Digger's photobucket account, and I can now see his concern, here's a photo:

yeaah yeah guys,

Actually Forbes your a little bit off base. My latest worry has been moths eating my brushes. I went to get a replacement brush from my spares drawer and found 3 with no hair. I immediately had recollections of some nameless modeler who was hair challenged. But my worries about damn moths returned....
ex-wife and ex girlfriends ( there are many... ;) are safely back in the city many miles away.....thank god !! All the other nasties are nothing compared to a venous woman. So I feel quiet at home with them. Crocks thin the tourists out a bit....

As to furniture and homes I do prefer older style...not into chrome, stainless steel and minimalist look. Which is another minus for me for that particular display cabinet and that method for dust proofing is not that good to look at. However it could be dressed up a little with a bit of work to suit my taste.
I do wonder if the shelf spacing could be changed and another one added.

The New Zealander's will never invade...not when there's a brothel on every country road.....

Well, I'm into my sixth decade, and guess where most of my completed planes are?
Only until I get round to sourcing and fitting some decent shelves for the office, mind. The occasional vehicle has found a home on various flat surfaces around the house.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

On the bench - Revell 1/48 Ventura II.
