1/35 Dragon Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger (Sd.kfz.181) Ausf.E Early Production.

Some background on the Tiger I Tank:

Tiger I was a German heavy tank of World War II deployed from 1942 in Africa and Europe usually in independent heavy tank battalions. Its final

designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E often shortened to Tiger. The Tiger I gave the Wehrmacht its first armoured fighting vehicle that

mounted the KwK 36 88-mm gun (not to be confused with the 8.8 cm Flak 36). Only 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944. Production was

phased out in favour of the Tiger II.

Update One

With a combination of getting carried away with this and other builds and missing some photo updates, here is where I am with the Tiger.

Primary assembly was done over a weekend session.



Then everything was primed with black stynylrez.



Then the tiger was painted a base colour of XF-63 German Grey and XF-85 rubber black on the wheels. Tracks were painted XF-84 Dark Iron.

I like this initial tiger, no fenders, just so simple. very cool model, looking forward to how you end up weathering it - Leningrad muddy, or something more factory fresh. TBH wanna see something not mssively muddied up for a change but dont let that sway you.

That looks more sherman green to me than german gray. I hope it will get more grey-ish as i got this kit myself not long ago and the same colour. Otherwise amazing work!

Update Two

The Tiger was gloss coated all over to seal the paint and make it ready for the decals.

Decals were then applied with Microsol set and sol.

Update Three

Back to the Tiger. I used a grime coloured clay wash and airbrushed it all over and has been left to dry.

I like this tank in Dunkelgrau very much, looks quite nice and simple.

Update Four

The grime clay wash was cleaned off leaving the grime in the recessed areas. This was sealed with matt varnish.

The tools were then painted and ink washes applied to add some light weathering.

Moving on with the weathering, I used AK's streaking grime for panzer grey first, sealed with matt varnish and then used AK's rainmarks for NATO tanks to add some additional paint weathering.

Then the trackes were drybrushed with Mr hobby metalizer to highlight the raised areas of the tracks.

Then the tracks were fitted and where required, spot glued with CA.

Then is was MIG's eurpoe dust pigment mixed with distilled water and applied as a wash to the tracks, underside and parts of the sides of the Tiger.

I just need to do some final touches but in essence it's pretty much done.
