What to build next?

I am coming close to finishing my first model for over twenty years and am entering the stage of what to build next.
My stash so far only consists of a Revell 1:144 Saturn V and an Airfix single seat 1:72 Eurofighter. I am really looking forward to building the Saturn V but don't want to tackle it until I know I can do it justice as this is the model I remember doing when I was a child and the Eurofighter doesn't really interest me much - it was a stocking filler at Christmas.
I think I want to build in 1:72 scale as much as possible as this seems a reasonable size, i.e. not too small and not too big and I like the idea of the planes being of comparable size. Although for ay real space stuff I think 1:144 is the option just for fitting them in my house.
In addition to real space I have an interest in building up a collection of the UK V bombers in their white flash paint work but have read a lot on how awful the Airfix Vulcan is. So my next thought are the stealth aircraft which again I have some invested interest in but also realise that modelling in mostly black has its own challenges but I think this is where I would like to go next.
Therefore do any of you guys have recommendations for good builds of any stealth aircraft at reasonable prices (i.e. I cant afford the Testors B2 yet)?
Please note that my skill level is still low although I am keen!

Not really stealth but why don't you buy a me 109 kit and build along with Pauls how too?

Thanks for that, I can see me losing hours looking at ghis website it's amazing. Just a quickie, though, are their some manufacturers which tend to be better standard than others. I've only done airfix and revell in the past.

Why didn't I think of that. It was Paul's 13 parter that introduced me to this site. I may well do this with his original series as I am too scared of photo etch and all that stuff to try his current one.

ALL manufacturers have good & bad offerings. My advice is to find the kit you fancy, on ScaleMates, scroll down & view the "Time Line". This will show when the kit was first released and what came after. Now, just because a kit is 20yrs old it doesn't mean that it's bad. Then do your homework on Google/YouTube.this forum etc. You can search ScaleMates for people who are working on a kit or have completed it.

1/48 fighters are a nice scale to work on. Airfix new tool offerings are nice and straight forward as are Tamiya's. The Tamiya kits are a little more refined than Airfix. Surface detail is better and the fit is superb. Their 1/48 Mustangs are a joy to build. There's a whole bunch of them in the Shiny Things SIG and they are universally praised by their builders. Just be careful the kit is not too old though. Tamiya's 1/48 Sea Harrier is ancient and a real dog. Check Scalemates for the age and history of the kits.

Eduard is another good company for 1/48. Their kits are superb but they are a little bit more fiddly. Their 'weekend' editions are nicely priced and don't include things like PE which you will find in their more expensive 'profipack' releases.

Once you get a bit of momentum you'll be a hostage to this hobby - just like the rest of us poor bast***s!

How about THIS KIT it is only the second kit I have built in many a moon & it didn't turn out to bad. The kit goes together beautifully, ENJOY!

A very nice build indeed.

I am awaiting delivery of a few items - trying to order them separately etc so the wife doesn't catch on to how much I am spending but hopefully I will soon be the proud owner of my first air brush and compressor (new paints then needed instead of my humbrol enamels). I think I am going to try and follow Paul's first set of videos on the airfix Bf109 so I have a reference and can see where my skills are up to. All this I and still haven't quite finished off my first model yet - must complete it!

Cheers for all the input I envisage my stash growing exponentially in the coming months.

Nige....ya looking at this all wrong. You have change your angle of approach to this daunting problem of what to build next. HAUNT gumtree, trading post and ebay....majorly increase the stash size then as the postie brings one to the door that excites then start the build...Leave it to the Postie mate he'll see ya right. !!

Well I'm at that funny stage again... Upto the clear coat, decal stage of a couple of models but I'm beginning to miss the actual construction side of things. So I was going to grab one from my meager stash. Trouble us I'm an indecisive sod and just can't make up my made on willing to do.

So I am planning for some help in choosing...
Here are the options

My personal favourite but I am scared to stay it.



Next a big kit which I think had too many pieces for me at the moment

I built the saturn v as a kid as well nige and then again a couple of years ago. The only tricky bit i found was painting the anti rotation squares on the corragated surface detail, i just struggled to get the tamiya tape to sit in place. It looks as good as you remember when done, but just be carefull where you display it if you have pets ! If you think bottles of micro sol and set get knocked over easily !!!

Another vote for the Saturn V here too - I've got the Airfix version lurking in the depths of a stash pile somewhere and am considering adding some wheel weights to the first stage to lower the centre of gravity and try and make it more stable in the event of a slight nudge.

Well it's looking like the Saturn V! I did build the Airfix one as a teenager and my family bought me this one for fathers day. I have it anothet day or so before the final decision but it looks like I should stock up on white paint.
