Am going to be building a rally car model and want it in a diorama and never made one before and would like to do it in a snow scene I have got snow powder but how do you make the ground also can I can 1/24 trees as that is the same scale as my car?

I use Rast Deranauo modelling snow, it works really well.

Trees in that scale are almost impossible to find and if you do they are extremely expensive. I can not even think of a place right now to recommend. You can try to build them yourself, but it is tricky.

For the base you could build up styrofoam they carve the terrain you want (use the pink or blue insulation, the white stuff made up of beads while turn into static charged white beads all over your home and will the last of them will be found a year later). Or you could go with a pure plaster build up on the base, but this will take much longer to dry and is more likely to dry. Some of the best examples of scenery methods will be found by looking at model railroading videos on youtube.

1/24 is big. Even a small tree (2-story, 24 feet, 9 meter) would be 12" (30cm) tall on the dio. A 60 foot (20 meter) tree like you would find in most forests would be 30" (1 meter tall). Since it's winter, you wouldn't have to include any leaves (unless you want evergreens...). I would suggest you find some branches that are about 1" to 1.5" (25mm to 25mm) thick, with a slight taper and use them as the trucks of you trees. The cut them so that it appears a magic, giant saw has removed the canopy from you forest so that the action can be seen. If you leave them taller than a simple tree stump would be the effect you'd want should be clear to the viewer, I'd suggest about 6" (15cm) or just above the height of the car and/or figures(whichever is taller).
