1/72 US Airbase Final Reveal

Post by PrivateMansoor »

Here is my final reveal of the 1/72 US airbase I have been working on for the Pacfic Theatre of Operations "PTO" GB

It is modelled on the various airbases used during the Pacific War. The main airbase I have used for inspiration is Kunming Airfield from WW 2.
The airbase has land based elements as well, which are used to service the base, defend the base or have it being readied for deployment

The goal is to create a Diorama to use as a display base i.e. as a shelf. This will then be used to display my future 1/72 US aircraft on.

With this in mind, I do not plan to make many aircraft, but rather all the appropriate buildings, personnel, and ground vehicles to make it a great display base for future aircraft builds.

I have calculated that I would be able to place a maximum of 7 mid sized aircraft on it

The models to be built are of only those aircraft and vehicles used during the Pacific War.

Now I planned to make a few tanks an some artillery. I could not get to making the tanks. The artillery I had bought was actually not use in the pacific war... so I had to leave that out.
I also planned to make two hangars but didn't get around to making those either.

Here is the build thread

Here it is as a shelf - which is its primary purpose.

Now I have a place to put 5 1/72 Allied tanks, about 5 more 1/72 WW 2 planes, about 4 more 1/72 vehicles as well. And they will all look like they belong there!

I was into this idea when you revealed it, and now that I see it done in the rack I think it's genius. Not only do you get a sweet dio with a dozen little stories going on, but a ready-made display area for more planes as they roll off the bench!

The planes look sharp and I think I can spend an hour looking through the pics at the figures, props, truck, and on and on. The work to get this done...that's a lot painting :
Backlog Progress: |||||||||||||||-------|----------|----------| 26/80
On the bench: Hasegawa 1/72 Tatiana's Vanship
Last Completed: Bandai HGUC Geara Zulu // Hasegawa 1/48 J2M3Raiden Prisoner of War

Thanks for that Lysus. Yep I am happy with the fact I have an actual diorama as a shelf now. I am planning to do a few more of those to fill out some more shelves.

Wow!

That's a great looking dio with a stunning Curtiss Hawk and a Hellcat. Love the truck and all the detail as well.

I like the size of it so you get some separation between the different areas - and you have sure found a clever way of displaying it :thumb2:

:cheers2:
