1/48 flyover diorama Sherman and P-47

Thought I'd put some photos up of an experiment I'm running on how to combine an AFV and aircraft in a flyover, in the same scale.

This was done using a large photo frame, creating a box for the tank to sit in and a tube insert on the top for the aircraft to attach to.

The kits were all Tamiya - Sherman early with diecast chassis, and their superlative P-47M with a few bits and bobs in the same scale - 1/48

Problems: I've been tinkering with this off and on since the start of the year, and I think i built the Sherman last year! Hence, I lost some parts, forgot where I was when i came back etc....

Definite ammunition AGAINST having shelf queens/too many things going on at once!

Here's a work in progress and where I'm at the moment, almost finished, some more weathering on the Sherman, obviously the base itself and finish painting the figure.

Last comment - this is an experiment and I don't think it works. Next time for a vertical display, I would drop the tank base down a bit more, and have the aircraft inside the photoframe. What do you think?

I love dioramas, adds so much more to model building IMHO, so good for you
The models are fine...both the tank and I especially like the plane
I am no expert by any means but have found out a couple things I maybe can share

I would try to have the prop look like it is spinning...cut a clear acrylic circle and do yellow at the edges for the prop tips and black blurrs in it
This is my attempt long ago with a Spitfire... I needed a cleaner cut circle and better painting, but you get the idea

Do a google search for "scale airplane spinning acrylic propellor"

What is the green square??
If it is a support for the plane maybe try clear sprue coming up from the base and then hide that sprue with a tree or something
Another example of mine with a Huey helicopter diorama, it really hides the support for the flying Huey.

Your base is fine.
Maybe a couple of GI figures waving and reacting to the plane overhead could tie the two together even more

yeah the green square is just masking tape over the photoframe!

I was going to do a spinning prop, but will do that next time for sure, even put a motor in it

in fact my next inflight build with a vertical display will be Fine Molds A7M1 Reppu with Tamiyas Zero motorised kit shoved in there...should be an easy build!

Oh I like the motor idea..that would solve the shoddy clear acrylic I did
Been looking into LED and fiberoptic lighting as well. The fiber optics can be had relatively cheaply on e bay and LED from even Christmas lights at the dollar store

Im trying to incorporate lighting in most of my dynamic stuff lately - my 1/48 F-22 has LEDS in the engines, and I should have put some fiber optics in teh cockpit too..

heres my video on how I lit up my 1/144 Millennium Falcon - again will do that better next time when i get around to my 1/48 version..
