But with this build my techniques order is a bit different
Mainly because i want to try some techniques from the FAQ book
So for the first time i will try to do chipping and fading after i decalled the plane
And some oilpaints for a change

Hi guys
So there was just one small thing left for me to do in this GB
And that is to post the final update on my Dauntless build
On this update i will try to show and explain the weathering proces of this build wich was a bit different as i used oilpaints for the first time on a plane
But in the end it all worked out pretty good allthough i made some mistakes in terms of the working order
For one i should have done the fading prior to the decals
According to the airplane FAQ book anyway
But the decals where placed already so there was nothing i could do about it at that point of the build

But anyway here is the actuall build update

As the starting point i had this
A gloss finished plane with the decals applied to it


My first step was to do some panel fading the old fashioned way
Just a lighter tone and a airbrush where used



Once that was done i applied some chipping to the panel lines and some of the decals
I used 2 blue tones to get the chipping so it wouldn't look too uniform


The chipping was also applied to the black walkway lines
This makes it look worn and that helps with the overall worn and beaten look i was after


Even the bottom received chipping allthough i have no idea wich color i used there
I think it is a very light green wich looks a bit similar to the cockpit and primer colors used on planes


After a new layer of gloss varnish i started with the oils
I mixed up a light blue tone for the dark blue top of the plane


With the help of thinner (AK odourless thinner) and some kitchen paper i removed most of it to leave a thin layer behind that dulls the dark blue


The light blue received the same treatment but this time i used transparent white
Because that covers the surface just a bit i find it easier to use then regular titanium white wich covers far better and thus make it look too pale


At this point i missed out on a few photo moments
But here is what i have done
Once i was happy with the oilpaints i covered the plane with a 4th coat of aqua gloss
And then applied the wash
I used mig prod. dark wash on top for both blue colors and neutral wash for the white bottom
Then it was covered with 2 coats of AK Ultra matte varnish
The matte finish reveals all the previous work as the gloss hides most from your eyes
But once it is matt you can see all the effects


This is the result on the white part of the plane



Then i painted the 2 lights
If they are molded on then i simply paint them with mr metal color chrome silver and let that dry (only takes about 10 minutes) and then i paint them with clear green and red from the Aqueous range


So now the plane is basicly ready for the last steps


First up was the canopy
The instructions don't tell you how the canopy looks when it is open
So i had to search online for some photo's
Ofter they where in a open position when the planes where on the ground but they didn't fully open the rear part
But the opened it just far enough for the gunner to get in fast
But because of all the extra detailing of the interior i wanted it completely open
Wich looks like this
It takes some time though as the canopy parts are a bit too narrow so i had to use a little bit of force to hold them down while the glue was setting


I then painted the exhaust with a brown color and applied some pigments while the paint was still drying
The soot stains where done with a black pigment and are applied straight on the plane without any fixer


Because planes in the PTO where often stationned on airfields and airstrips that where just a long sand strip covered with pierced steel planking i decided to add some dust to the wheels


Now i hope you can actually see it but i placed a antenna wire made from Ammo wiring
That is basicly the same as EZ wire but i just happen to have this brand
It is 0.2mm thick so hard to see but just above the canopy you can see it
Lovely stuff to work with by the way


And then i called it finished

I already posted the final reveal a couple of days ago and i was planning to have this update posted shortly after it but i was a bit busy at work and forgot all about it
But if you want to see the reveal that is in the reveal section
So this is the end of this build
The build it self was a bit challenging as the kit is okay but not great and the upgrade parts take up a lot of time
But i really had fun with the weathering even though i never weathered a plane this much
I tend to keep them a bit cleaner most of the time

So this is all i have for this build
