Ivan's German ambush "M" build

Post by NorthernModeller »

I will be entering these stunners into the GB, all great kits with a story to tell. There will be a US convoy (as such) being ambushed by the German hedgerow tank hunters, It will all hopefully go to plan.

Holy kits, Batman. Where do these go when you finish?! I'm starting to look around the house like, maybe we DON'T need this dishwasher, a display case would be better...

Today we begin with the original entry (ooeer) The Dragon M2A1 halftrack, Its a stunning kit and the detail is brilliant. BUT!!!! as per usual with dragon, the instructions are wrong or are very misleading. starting with my least favourite part of armour, the wheels and suspension. The engine itself was actually really nice, shame it will be completely lost when the cab is in place, I will still make the effort to detail it tho. It builds up into a large model actually. Great detail.

Starting to take shape and look like a half track :) cant complain about this kit yet. going to prime the interior of the cab now as I want to paint and weather that before closing it up and making it hard to get to.

Build is coming along nicely, the detail is great. There are two options, I did not decide on the version till the end, and to be honest it was quite accidental lol.

And now primed in the BEAUTIFUL black Ultimate primer.

Then we start to base coat and modulate, HEAVILY. I did it heavily on purpose due to the fact the weathering and gloss coat will knock it back. then the dull coat will bring it back

Then I detail painted the seats and some smaller parts, Then we have a gloss coat down. Then it will be time to chip, wash, oils and WEATHER.

Really starting to crack on with the weathering :) I LOVE this kit and would recommend anyone to go out and get one, although on ebay they are going for at least £45 atm so not the cheapest, considering I bought it for £25 ;)

Time to start using a few of these, love oil dot filters and streaking :)

WOOP WOOP, doesnt look half bad ;)

Tarp time, I make tarps on Vehicles by wetting tissue and then moulding it into position then dabbing PVA glue onto it till dried.

The half a track is looking all a sweet. The tarp trick is a bit of genius.

Superb filtering and streaking, the kit just comes alive - superb.

The tarp is cool too. One for the memory bank me thinks!:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
