Cool, I'll have to file that away in my brain somewhere for the future. Thanks :cheers2:

The camo looks great on the sides
And i think i will borrow that idea for a seascape
I have a tiny canou that i am painting with 2 Royal Marines and this just may be a easy way to make a little bit of water around it

Keep up the good work

the seascape is very rough right now.. there are many more steps involved to getting it to like a realistic seascape

the seascape is very rough right now.. there are many more steps involved to getting it to like a realistic seascape
With the tool involved i was expecting that
But just to create a base it will work
I think i will just use a bit of sandpaper to smooth it out a bit
The seascape i need would only be 15x10 cm or 6x4 inch
And i have those water texture products from Vallejo so that will smooth it out a bit aswell
But never the less i will be following your build to see your approach
Who knows i can use it for future builds ......if i get a ship some day

made a bit of progress on the USS Hornet Build.

Built the Island less the antennas, radars and armament... cut the foam to fit the hull. Painted the flightdeck with black primer.. under the primer is a strip of white running along the port side of the flightdeck.. there are two white strips that are masked.. next up is to paint the flight deck. ..and Island and. detail paint the lower hull

I absolutely love where this ship diorama is headed :thumb2: The carrier looks great and the sea base as well.
Will you do some silicone on top as well????
It does make for some realistic water and you don't need to spend a fortune on model specific stuff.
Cheap,clear bathtub silicone
Good luck and keep going!!!

okay.. the next step in the making of the seascape

using liquitex Gloss medium and varnish

Image

I coat the entire seascape with a generous layer of the clear gloss acrylic medium

Image

while the medium is still wet. I lay a single long piece of paper towel over the sculpted foam, avoiding any tears in the paper

Image

before the underlying layer dries, i liberally applymore medium.. don't press too hard, avoid wrinkes.. brush in the direction of the seas

Image

press with your fingers to snug the paper down on to the shape of the suplted sea and squeezing air bubbles out
Image

I'll let dry for 48 hrs and then on to the next step

seascape is ready for painting. after 12 coats of Gesso and some light sanding it's ready for paint. I will be using Phithalo Turquoise., I find this shade to be the perfect color for a deep ocean color. During tha latter coats I will add some black in the wave troughs and add white and a lighter blue on the crests

Major update on the seascape.

For the white water effects.. I used raylon cotton. pulled apart to create webs
Image

attached the cotton to the seascape using Liqutex high gloss varnish

Image

once the cotton is down I coat the entire base with multiple layers of varnish

Image

I continue on along the hull using the same proceedure.. in the following images you can see THat I'm working on a crashing wave on the bow which is not yet complete. I'll let dry what I have now then continue to try to make that wave seem to exploded with water...we'll see how it turns out..
