Guidelines & Rules...

Post by Lee »

What is a Group Build (GB)?

A group build is where everyone on the forum (who wants to participate) gets together and picks a mutual subject to model. It will usually run over an agreed span of time (every 4 months for ISM). Everyone who's entered posts up their progress (in pictures) as they build the model with a final reveal and showcase at the end. There are usually a specific set of loose rules to say if it's got to be OOB (Out Of the Box) or you can add extras such as PE (Photo-Etch), after market resin parts or decals etc. There's never a rush and we will allow enough time to participate in the GB and do all your usual modelling at the same time.

There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes kindly sponsored by Air-Craft.net for every GB. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Martin at Air-Craft for his continued support, it's greatly appreciated. Please go and check their website out by clicking the banner below, their customer service is second to none.

Because at ISM our ethos is that it doesn't matter what you build or how it turns out, as long as you enjoyed the journey, the way who gets the prizes is determined is going to be totally different to every other modelling website! It's not going to be just the prettiest or best built model that wins or places, the prizes will go to the best overall build thread. This means the more back story to your model you post, the more updates (with pictures) you post, the better the explanation of your techniques to achieve the end result (inc your youtube vids) you post, the better chance you will have of getting placed for a prize. Basically what this means is that the more you share your information, the better the benefit to the modelling community, which in turn benefits everyone of us. So, it doesn't matter if you're all thumbs, just started modelling last week, or can't achieve an exact replica of the subject you're building, we want to see that you've enjoyed the journey to the end result, no matter how it's turned out and most importantly, that you've had FUN getting there.....

Group builds are great fun and gets everyone working together towards the same goal and helps to get modellers out of their usual comfort zone and try something else whilst sharing their tips & techniques with the whole community. If you've never entered one before, don't be shy and have a go, we'd love to see your work.... :D

I have an old Tamiya kit from the 70's I bought just for this build and have been staring at it's shrink wrapped box for 6 months. Guess it is time to unbox it. will try to fit it in with the other builds.

Weird question, but is start time GMT, or relative to my timezone (GMT -8)? I'm guessing it's GMT since it ends midnight GMT, but I'd like to be certain.

Only reason I ask is I'll be out of town a couple days but I could at least take and post some box and runner shots this afternoon.

Gentleman, civility please. At least give him a chance before you disqualify him. I guess with an OOB, I can't use any sausages with it can I?

Heh, it's cool, Scott's my bro. We're just goofing.

Now, I'm disappointed that you can't use sausages. I know there's some strong opinions about sausages on this forum, and I'm always keen to see some debate. And some nummy pork.

Now I want sausages...

Anyway. I know scratch building isn't allowed but how about stretched sprue from the kit for rigging and stuff? All good or no go?

I second that both on the sausage and the stretch sprue... Some Tamiya kits (the very old ones in particular) call for stretched Sprue to make antennas and such

Guessing I can't do my Subaru Impreza WRC as I've painted the chassis floor, rims and gearbox already? No fuss if I can't as I've got an unstarted Supra to do.

My kit call to add stretched sprue and straps for the stowage in the instructions, would this count as scratch building or be allowed?

The transfers in the kits are a bit cracked, can I combine what is useful with hand drawn/painted instead?

As per the rules, stretched sprue is fine on a Tamiya kit.

That would be fine.

If you can show us pictures that the decals are cracked a replacement set would be allowed.
