Need HELP with Game Color WASH Lavado!!!

Post by Heywhire »

I made the mistake of putting on whole airplane instead of just a small area to test. I did the following:

1 - Painted with Tamiya Acrylic
2 - Sprayed with Pledge/Future wax
3 - Applied Decals
4 - Sprayed Pledge/Future again
5 - Applied Wash

In between all these steps is about a day or more drying/curing.

I cannot seem to get the wash off!!!! I hope the wax I bought was the correct one. I thought I picked the correct one. I figured it was acrylic so the excess should come off with water, well it doesn't. :eeek: : :( .

Any suggestions?

That's probably never coming off I'm afraid.
Laying Acrylics over acrylics then letting them dry pretty much sunk ya.
That wax is also not the most reliable product for modelling. Though many of us have been using it for decades it isn't made for modelling ... It's floor wax.
There are far superior products on the market that aren't very expensive that will do the job more reliably.
It's better to spend a bit more and use a product that is actually made for the hobby and tested against the products that we use than to risk spoiling a piece of work from contamination.
I've lost a few projects because of future and I know many others have as well. It's unpredictable nature caused its removal from my stores a while ago.
When laying paint the way you were you need a barrier that won't react to the chemicals that you're applying. Like a lacquer gloss over acrylic paint or acrylic gloss over enamel/lacquer/oils.
Alclad Aqua gloss seems to be an exception to this rule. It's and acrylic gloss, but it's able to stand up to any chemical weathering that I've seen applied. It's almost a universal gloss media. The stuff is bullet proof.

You also need to remove washes (acrylic and oils) before they cure. An acrylic wash dries very fast, within hours, so it needs to be removed very soon. Left overnight and it cures then you're pooched. You might be able to take some of it off with some Vallejo airbrush cleaner, but chances are it will still mar the paint underneath.
The wash that I would have suggested using instead of that game workshop stuff would be either an oil/enamel wash or a clay based wash.

Someone else may have a better and less drastic suggestion, but I think that you'll need to repaint your piece.

:( Coen,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that.

Well I wont make that mistake again.

So if I paint with Tamiya Acrylic I need to seal with enamel clear? or seal with acrylic clear and wash with enamel wash?

Thanks again.

You can paint with acryl and use an acryl clear, just dont use an acryl wash over it, as Michael said, go with either an enamel, oil or clay based wash. In cockpits i have a bad habit of using games workshops washes over unsealed paint but so far seem to be getting away with it.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

Yup, just like Wook says... Paint and seal with acrylics then wash with oil/enamels

not sure if you still have this kit or sorted it already,

but check http://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=19411

I had similar issue, but I used vallejo airbrush cleaner to fix
