Colour Instructions

Post by JudgeDredd »

Just watched Lee's review of the A400 (thank you Lee) and he mentioned no colour instructions.

That made me wonder - black and white was always the norm when I was a kid (for obvious reasons)...it seems mad that they don't do colour instructions for models now. As Lee mentioned in his video, they only have to add 50p or £1 to the cost and modellers would likely be happy with that.

I certainly find painting the model the biggest stresser for me and I think having a colour manual would ease that somewhat.

Anyway - I was thinking - are there any model manufacturers that consistently put out colour instructions?

Thanks

Some of the new Revell instructions are colored. Same applies to Meng (at least their painting and marking guides are full color).

Wow, that's an old vid man....lol

I have to say more manufacturers do colour instructions than don't these days. It's good to see :)

Have to say i prefer black and white instructions with a splash of colour like bronco or miniart do but there is no excuse for not having a colour painting guide, heck even airfix do it.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.

On most instructions I can see how colour instructions work better, but in some instances they're a nightmare, seeing when one colour stops and the next begin on the Airfix 1:48 Messerschmitt BF109E-1 was impossible as the two colours were so similar, in that case black and white would have been much simpler :thumb2:

Never mind colour, what about when tank kits only show you one side of the vehicle for camouflage schemes.

I'm talking to you ACADEMY - feel the shame! :wall:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Funnily enough was thinking about this last night looking at F4 Phantom paint schemes in lovely shades of grey...thanks Tamiya+Italeri fatherless person child kit
Do the bloody painting guides in colour for sure. Assemby stuff is fine in black and white.
I have both Meng and WIngnut Wing kits and yes those colour instruction BOOKLETS blow everyone else out of the air!!!
It is sad that coloured painting reference is the exception and not the norm.
