Scribing help

Hi

I have a question on what tool to use for re-scribing panel lines.

I want to build a 1/72 Airfix Buccaneer but the kit is covered with raised panel lines and I want to fix that.
I have a Tamiya p-cutter but I found it slip to easy on the kit and I cannot get to all the places to get a nice proper panel line.

I had 1 try and found that I could not reach all the places so I have put the kit away for now, till I can get some extra PE parts to build the air brakes and have more practice with panel lines and a tool fit for the job.

I use the Trumpeter scribing tool. Also, you'll want to get some Dymo embossing label tape to stick down as a guide (probably the most important part). You may want to consider using the raised panel lines as your guide for scribing before removing them, it will save all the guess work. Good luck!

Same here, when I do scribe I use the Trumpeter tool. Cheap and it works.

I use the Tamiya one, no doubt it will do the same job as the Trumpeter. I'm no rescribing expert but one thing I have found is make many light passes rather than trying to dig a trench as you're most likely to slip if you put too much pressure on. I use the edge of a Lion panel and shapes rescribing template as a guide.

The Tamiya one is not reaching everywhere especially where the engines and the fuselage meet..........
The thing I have with the trumpeter one is you throw the whole tool away when blunt and it does not give you a clean line...

Tried to find the video on YouTube, there is another one that looks the size and shape of a utility knife blade. looked very interesting.

I use the Scribe-R, from RB productions. A simple wee beast, comes on a steel fret with three blades and a holder for about a fiver. Fits into a standard x-acto style holder. Cannot recommend it enough.

I've used a Scribe-R, but prefer the Trumpeter. I'm learning scribing on an Airfix Vulcan at the moment - a baptism of fire! Dymo tape is essential!

Keep an eye for some of those special Photo etched razor saws... from Hasegawa..
they are excellent for hard to reach or compound shapes...
They have many shapes and come in various thicknesses !
