Hello from sunny Southern California...

Post by BobM »

Hey there!

Like many of the other stories I've read here, I built a variety of models as a kid, never very well. I tried getting back into it in my mid-20's, but didn't have much success (or time really). Now in my mid-50's the kids are out of the house so I'm looking for something to fill the evenings rather than the DVR and Netflix!! The Internet and ISM are great resources; too bad they weren't around 30 years ago!

So, I just pulled the trigger on my "first" kit, the old 1:48 Tamiya J2M3 Raiden. I've never built a Tamiya kit, well other than a couple of R/C cars with my son, and I hear this one's pretty good for its age. Picked it up pretty cheap, so I won't be out much if I screw it up. The expensive part was getting a good selection of Tamiya paints, glue and other "necessities" to put it together!

Over the next couple of weeks I'll be getting a work area setup and dive in. If I get up the nerve, maybe I'll even join the"M" group build!! Wish me luck!

Thanks for the very detailed post Paul. I've been perusing the forums and YouTube for awhile, so I'm quite familiar with your offerings. I really enjoy your build videos; you make it all look so easy.
