Colour Mixing Cups

Post by ComfortablyNumb »

Hi All,

I've always mixed my colours in the airbrush cup. But now I would like to follow Paul's process of mixing in a separate cup. Where the hell do you get the cups from? The ones I've found on Ebay seem extortionately expensive for what they are (or am I just a tightwad?).

Where do you get your's Paul?

Cheers,
Numb

Do you mean these?

Apologies if not, they do the job but I must admit that I am not convinced by the measurements on them and I think I would prefer glass ones that are easier to clean, there are other things I think could be improved on as well

Not sure what cups you are looking at, I've just ordered some tattoo ink cups to mix my paint in. They come in various sizes, I think the large 20mm cup will be fairly decent, and they are relatively cheap. I think I ordered 500 for about $8 US. If you are looking for larger cups, I've seen people using the cheap plastic 1oz shot cups, you can pick up a sleeve of 300 for a decent price on Amazon or on Ebay, you could probably find them at Costco if you have one near you.

the lids can be susceptible to strong solvent

Thank you all. I was searching literally for paint mixing cups. Didn't think laterally!

Also you can use tattoo ink cups as they are pretty cheap, I brought 100 of the small ones ( i think mine cost less than £2 ) which I use for black basing as one little cup will paint the under side of something like the eduard 1/48 spitfire. I think the cups I have are 1ml.

Another thing to buy is cheap glass shot glasses as you can clean them with ease if you need to mix up a few mils of paint so they do pay for them selves after a while.

Boy they are cheap. Thanks for the tip.

I've a couple of proper shot glasses I use for cleaning the airbrush bits and pieces.

Get yourself a set of metal measuring spoons and mix the paint and thinners in that - metal cup can then be wiped clean with a piece of kitchen towel
