Tamiya 1/12 Ducati 1199 Panigale build FINISHED

I just thought i would seek some input from others as to whether i have over done the paint job with Titanium silver as there is a lot of chrome silver on this bike.

I have also used bronze on the mufflers and front as i wanted to be different and i am just working on the front forks and i am going to spray them gold leaf and see what they look like.

It is looking more like a bike now and has been a bit fiddly and my fingers shake when using a paint brush and using the little screws.

That's looking good just as it is mate.
When painting a model its a toss up of whether you want the colors to look like you like it or if you feel the need to make it look like the original 1/1 bike.
I normally paint mine how I like/feel looks good to me, after all, it is my model:)
What I see above is very effective and looks great, well done.

I would like to build one as per the instructions but I tend to drift off on a tangent but as you say it is down to personal choice.

I just thought there was a lot of silver around the engine area and I wanted to break up the mass of silver plus I am not very good with a paintbrush which is why I use an airbrush for 99% of the work.

As theres so much silver you could perhaps touch it up with a dark wash or panel line accent to give the engine individual parts a bit more definition.
I am hopeless with a brush but as they say "Only one way to learn"

I have finished the Ducati and after spending two hours painting in the red line around the wheels i found out that these lines are supplied as decals and i could not believe my stupidity.

After finishing the painting i applied some glue to attach the screen and with a bit of glue on my finger i touched the large side fairing and it ruined the paint job so i had to do it again (surely someone else has done that)

The Ducati was painted in Tamiya X7 red and it came out matt which was a disappointment so i gave it three coats of Klear to give it a bit of a shine and hoped for the best.

Ah, dave ! Thats a bummer with the wheel decals. The only consolation is they can be tricky to apply. This is probably the last thing you want to hear just now but it might save you some grief on the next one - usually the screens on the tamiya bikes dont require glue, just locate the lip at the front and then the two little pins at the other end and it'll clip into place lovely

If I had read the instructions correctly I would have known but to be honest I am more disappointed with the overall finish as I feel it just seems like I have done it half heartedly.

I have to say it looks as good as any, would never have known. I dont think i've ever been 100% happy with any oem them.

I made the mistake when I first started doing Scale bikes of GOOGLING and finding builders that do detail work like this, (http://www.scaleworks365.com/)



Now after about 25 bikes and over 2 years of trying I can't come close (perhaps one day)
The important thing is to enjoy what we are building and I believe that the standard of all of our work will slowly creep up.
Well that's my theory anyway lol

The detailed picture of the handlebars on this page is not my bike but I wish mine was that good.

I'm sure it was 3yrs and about 1800hrs work. The one piece of advice he gave was to spray everything no matter how small and i must admit i do try, if it's possible to mask it, it gets sprayed !

No I have not seen that one, would be a great video to watch
One thing I always remember though, is that MarcoMoto (from the scaleworks 365 forum was asked how he got such lvely detailed work and his answer was quite simple:

"Treat every part, regardless of how small, as if it was the whole model"

Spraying every part even though fiddly certainly makes sense

There is not really any issues with the kit other than seam lines on the tank which seems to take me ages to remove and other than the poor paint job it is complete unless i have missed something.

It funny as you should mention that bike as i have been thinking of a Tamiya 14084 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R and i have two saved in my watch list on eBay.

I have built the Ninja zx-12r as well and it's quite impressive with the bright green & chrome

Clear green panels don't matter Dave.
You just paint as you would a normal colored one.

There is always this option if you don't want to paint the Ninja Green

Think i prefer the blue ! The green tint does give you the option of seeing all the detail painting you mentioned before but still have the classic kawasaki green. It's a nice problem to have.

I've never considered the ZX-12R due album art, not the greatest fan of green lol, anyway that blue one is stunning, it just shows how a different colour adds a whole new dimension to it.
