AFV Club 1/35 Sturmtiger

Hi guys,
I just wanted to show you my progress on this thing. I bought it from a guy who started building it. I was kinda dissapointed when I found out that few parts were missing from the box, mainly PE for the crane. Lesson learned, never buy started kits (good thing I paid it 12$) xD It took me quite some time to get it build, I just couldnt focus on it. Zimmerit was added using Perfect plastic putty and zimmerit tool from Academys new Tiger I Mid (damage added with X-acto). I'm happy with the way that turned out. Tools were replaced with Dragon ones, they look waaaaay better. Also, I used spare DS Tiger I Early tracks because AFV gives you tracks without lightning holes and that bugs me alot. I would have liked to buy some metal tracks, but the wallet said no.
Anyhoo, build is done, next up, primer.

Well, I kinda forgot how long it takes to paint Tigers xD
It took me two sessions to prime it, I don't know if I'm just slow or is this normal haha
Thank god, this has late wheels...
You can get a better look at that zimmerit now, I kinda dig it, but for the first time trying to do it, I'm very pleased. Take a look guys and tell me what you think.
Primer used is AK's Black.








No 48 wheels on a Tiger?! Blasphemy !



Tracks took FOREVEEEEER to prime, gotta cover every nook and crany with paint, and there are a LOT of nooks and cranys haha

This is just my opinion of course, but I think your zimmerit looks much better than many of the aftermarket zimmerit sets!

You put the two brothers together there. The sturm is a AFV kit but who is the tiger 1 from. Is it a dragon ? Curious because I noticed that on sits higher than the other. If you look towards the mudguards and suspension. Is it the tracks or the wheel arms. Obviously a manufacturing difference.

You have a good eye, my friend. Tiger is from Zvezda and it is just a little bit shorter heightwise and lenghtwise. I coudnt see any defference widthwise with naked eye, so I suppose it is pretty much the same. That is maybe even more pronouced on the photo because of the weird angle and the fact that I bent the fenders on Sturm upward.
Measurements dont really bother me so I wont compare them with the real thing and try to find out which one is wrong. I guess there is no rivet counter in me regarding this. But when I see no hollow guide horns on Tiger tracks and no tool clasps, I tottaly freak out, don't know why xD

I'm not a rivet counter either, but when buying kits I do like to buy one that is reasonably accurate and fit together well.

Zvezda has link and lenght with open guide horns. Also two piece barrel, but I dont mind that. Few problems but nothing a ordinary modeller coudnt fix. Well, after a few weeks on the shores of Adriatic, it's time to do some modelling again. I just painted her yesterday with AK's Dunkelgelb Ausf. '44 DG III.
I like the variation of Dunkelgelb so will try not to be repetitive on my german vehicles and just paint them over and over with the same color.
Well, here she sits now, camo next. Maybe this afternoon.







Zimmerit really pops up now, I really like how it turned up.
Any constructive critism welcomed.

After month and a half, I finally managed to slob camo on this thing. Paint used are Ak's. Color's a a bit darker on model, I guess camera cant pick it up right. Tell me what you think, dont be shy






Oh and yes, camo got out from my head, no real historical reference here. I like it, and in my book that is all that matters.

Nothing wrong, it goes together very well. Just that the tracks are incorrect, they arent hollow.
