best leopard 2 kit

Post by darkhelmet25 »

I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. I'm not particularly interested in modern armor, though I did recently come across a video on the Leopard 2 that I found very interesting. I especially liked the winter camo scheme shown on several tanks running cross country at high speed. Given that I know nothing about this tank, I would greatly appreciate thoughts on what kit to buy. Thanks

I have done the hobby boss 2a6m can I'm no expert on this tank or had much experience with modern armour but it went together well and has some interesting cage armour.

Obe of the Hobby boss kits is probabbly a good choise
I have the Leopard 2A6M Can from Hobby boss and that looks good but it has the bird cage armor wich can be challenging
A regular version could be easier and the Germans wich have most of these winterized Leopards don't have the slat armor on it
The Meng Leopard 2A7 is a option aswell but it costs more and i have serious doubts about the tracks wich are workable but very fragile
The Meng PHZ2000 has dimilar or even the same tracks and i snapped over a third of the parts just cleaning them
And there is Revell wich is the cheapest option
Those kits are okay but nothing special and they don't have clear parts for the periscopes or photo etch
So i would advise a Hobby biss kit as those are a bit easier to build ,still have a good fit and aren't the most expensive kits for Leopard tanks
But i think it is nice to see wich version they show in the video
Many of the winter Leopards are the older A4 types with the large flat fronts on the turret
From the A5 to A7 they have pointy fronts
On the bench
GB builds
1/35 Trumpeter M1132 ESV

Personal builds
1/35 Hobby Boss M1070 tractor with M1000 semi trailer and Meng M1A2 TUSK II Abrams
1/35 Takom V2 rocket with the Meillerwagen and SS100 tractor

depends on how much you are ready to spend ?

they have kits for low, medium and premium kits...

Italeri and Revell are low tier and dated tooling !
Hobby Boss are... middle of the road and have many export variants to offer...
Tamiya is trouble free but you only get 2 types A5 or A6 and
MENG have the upper hand but their tracks are troublesome...

it all depends on how much you are ready to spend... and which variant you feel like building...
research your kits on Scalemates.com read reviews and buy accordingly !

Best of luck.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated. Here's a link to the video I was referring to. The winter camo clip is aroung 20 seconds in - may want to hit mute. Thanks again.
