M4A2 USMC Sherman With Wading Mod Stacks.

Post by privatepete »

I'm hopefully going to build a M4A2 USMC wading Sherman which would have had the mod's done in the field it was used in the Invasion of Guam & Jima.
It will also have wood side armor, metal barrel, center fuel can rack, new engine deck, and two wading stacks which will all be scratch built .

Hi decided to do some woodwork today and made up the wood side armor from wooden stirring sticks.
Made two side panels from white card.
Laid out and cut .
Glued to side panel added top wooden strip.
Made dummy bolts.
Painted to new wood as a base coat.

Wooden planks fastened to welded-on steel frames. The goal was not so much protection against anti-tank rounds but as a measure to counter the insane bravery of the Japanese soldiers who could throw or place satchel charges or Type 99 magnetic mines against the hull.

Made up two filler panels that are missing, they will fill the gap between the top & lower hulls.

Hi David, thank you, yes it's going together nicely (it is a Tamiya) .I will be changing the bolts on wooden armor for smaller one's and I'm waiting on a barrel to arrive in the post so it will be back to the drawing bored and white card to make the rear wading stack.

This could be the last update, I am having major PC/log in trouble with ISM at the minute so this is going to be shout & sweet.

Hi I have removed the bolts on the wooden armor and remade them half the size of the the first ones.

Image
Image

Made up some straps & buckles.

Image

Slid a piece of the wire through the fold.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Apply some CA glue to the back of the belt , cut off the excess wire from either side of the buckle .

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

You can use the needle to punch tiny holes in the belt to look like buckle holes.

Made up straps for rucksacks.

Image
Image
Image

Made up rear exhaust stack.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Fitted front stowage.

Image
Image

Made up fuel can rack.

Next some paint.

Thank you for looking.

Magnetic mines.

The Japanese had a really potent magnetic mine. Wood helped prevent the use of the mine in very vulnerable areas.
