I bought this the other week and I'm having a lot of fun building it at the moment.

Problem is (well not a problem as such just need advice for future projects) some of the plastic in the box just wouldn't glue with Tamiya Extra Thin or any other glue that I threw at it only CA did the trick.

What it was, there was at least 4 different plastics in the box, the black for the frame and engine was a very soft supple plastic almost to the point of if you dug your thumb nail in it you expected it to leave a little mark.

There was some white/off white that was the most like a Tamiya plastic.

These two where OK with Tamiya Extra Thin.

The third was the clear stuff.

The last was the chromed parts, I de-chromed them and they were a VERY hard almost brittle plastic. No matter how much Extra Thin I tried (on a spare piece of course) it just stayed on top of the plastics. With very MINIMAL of reactions on the plastic, but when going back to it after it had set the smallest pressure and the join would snap!

So I don't really want to use CA on the Chromed and painted parts that I've already done, does anybody know of a glue that will stick the stuff?

I'm guessing it's ABS because they are quite easily cromed. I know Tamiya makes a good ABS plastic cement, acetone should work well aswell.

It will attack the paint in similar way tamiya extra thin does, so yes, it might ruin a good paintjob.

Thanx for that. So I may be able to use it on a painted part if I'm careful. Goodo.

I'm testing it out on a spare piece of unpainted sprue. I'll let you know how it goes.

tamiya produces a abs cement....just mentioning not recommending

Well I went ahead with just plain old CA. Bob Smith medium gap filling stuff. Just have to wait and see if it fogs or whitens any of the paintwork. It didn't strip off any of the paint while I was sticking bits on. So that was a plus.

The Acetone I used on a spare bit of sprue didn't work. So I may have some diluted stuff.

Yeah if it doesnt work with acetone then its something else, maybe POM or even PVC. The best bet is probably CA then
