Well, my return to modelling is underway!

I have spent an absolute fortune this afternoon, and as a result I'm sure that Martin, at Air-craft.net will be having a beer or a large orange juice on me tonight.

I won't brag on all the exact details, but I've treated myself to some new H&S airbrushes, a BenchVent spray booth and a Sparmax TC-620X compressor, plus some Ultimate products and some odds and ends.

Ha, I can't wait to receive my order. Well, I can, but you know what I mean.

All I need now is some help on the best paints, fillers and adhesives to use, seeing that so much has changed. Over to you guys if you are willing to offer some advice.

Not sure there are "best", just best for you, ease of use, best for that job etc, but for what it's worth, I like the Tamiya acrylics, Vallejo model air, Ultimate/badger primers, Tamiya extra thin glue, and a little bottle of thick and a thin super glue (not experienced enough varieties to name brands)

I've used Tamiya acrylics before and have always liked them. I've heard much about the Vallejo and Mr Hobby range, so they might be worth a go. I've used the normal Tamiya cement before so I'll bear the extra thin variety in mind.

It was a great day last December when I decided to go get all my supplies. It was like Christmas, but better.

I'd say for getting to know your airbrushes Tamiya is probably best. Tamiya acrylics are easy to use and the 50/50 mix of paint to thinner in almost all situations takes away a lot of the guessing and second-guessing as you try it out. They also are easy to clean up.

I'm still fooling around with different fillers; there's so many variations and uses for them that it's a bit bewildering. You can do anything from un-thinned Mr Surfacer, MR Dissolved Putty, CA glue, Tamiya putty, and on and on. I'd say grab some Tamiya putty and maybe something like Mr Dissolved Putty to start with and play with them, watch some tutorials.

Adhesives...well Tamiya Extra Thin (TET) is sort of the gold standard--it's a must buy in my book. I also have some regular Tamiya cement and some thin CA glue. I'd say that covered my needs immediately.

TET is your go to glue, it's almost the industry standard these days. I also have a pot of Tamiya normal cement (white top) also which I use for sticking big bits together that you can't see.

To be honest I wanted to future proof myself so I didn't mind spending a bit more, and as we all know buying cheap isn't always the right way to go about things, so it makes sense to buy good equipment straight away. I've airbrushed before so I'm not completely new to it, I just need to knock the rust off and get back into the swing of things. I've plenty of old kits I can practice on.

To be fair, Martin only advised me on the compressor, as I'd already done my homework on the airbrushes and spray booth. But as you say he's definitely a nice chap and is a pleasure to deal with. Martin has gained a new long term customer in me, 100% so.

Thanks for the advice on glues and fillers etc, very much appreciated. I've used standard Tamiya glue before and I liked it a lot. I've ordered some TET and the other items you recommended, so I'll blame you if I don't approve! I jest of course.
