Revell F4C/D Phantom

At last I've started!
Having another look at the kit, it really is a mixed bag. There's is some good but mainly bad.. in lots of areas, but we'll come across that in due course.

Anyway, let's begin in the cockpit

I was going to get a resin 'pit and try and shoehorn it in, but I didn't think this model was worth the expense..

Ultimate primer (obviously)

This picture kinda sums up the kit, ip on the left is quite ok, ip on the right is not...

Thought I'd prime the air intake and u/c bays for no other reason than that I felt like it..

It's a big bird alright...!
Let's have a look at the fit..

Cheers Les, there's not that much to the kit, once the pit is painted literally it's fuselage together, wings on then it's primer.

As I started building my original, Monogram issue of this kit I found a J-model resin cockpit designed for the Revellogram, but I chose to use the kit parts.

Surprisingly good moulding in the cockpit for Revell.
You did the right thing IMHO as those sets and instrument panels are more than decent.....saved your self some money

I didn't think the kit was worth throwing good money at it tbh, looks like a nice 'pit tho..

There isn't that much to this kit John, it's quite.....plane.....

I'm possibly not going hang any of the missiles as they are terrible, so that'll save time...

I've also got base paint into the cockpit but it's far too boring to show...

Thanks mate, I really enjoyed doing them. AK Extreme Metals are quick drying so you can get a wriggle-on. I've no idea if they are accurate....

For my build, I am going to use Model Master Metalizers. They are the easiest to get one's hands on here in the States.

I just ordered a Hase one yesterday. Costed me 36€ Had it put in a "wanted" list at a modelling store to notify me when it was available A year ago. Got an email friday it was available. It's a 2001 kit

Your intakes seem to fit better than mine did. I had to do a lot of blending with putty. Once you get to painting, you'll be happier with the kit. I am actually liking mine. This may be due to the fact, that the Monogram is the original molding.

I am for sure displaying my canopy open because the fit is really bad.

Yeah Mike, have the canopy open as it's not the best to close up. As for the intakes, they're not too bad after primed with Ultimate..
This kit is a painting exercise for me, not so much about building.

Well..... I've started the throw some paint around at last..

Wheels, Tamiya Rubber Black and AK Exteme Steel..

Painting by numbers? You must remember that back in the day....?

This is going to be all freehand, so I hope it goes well..

That dark green Mr Hobby Aquaous 309, is a horrible colour to spray...it's just a yucky colour!
Anyway, undersides to do next.....

love the painting by numbers idea.....now I know what to do to stop getting confused when I paint camo schemes....thanks!!
How on earth do you manage to use filler and not sand down all the detail.....one of my biggest failures !

Well... I put some Tammy tape either side of the seam on the fuselage and gently sanded the filler, the tape helps to protect any detail. I have lost some but I might get away with it. Other than that I used some water based stuff and used a moist Cotten bud too remove any excess..

Been ages since I've been on Guy's Spook. So for punishment I started the decals/stencils..

The decs are really good as it happens, a bit of a relief..
