Home made spray booth extraction advice

Post by rocketchuckergeek »

Hello guys,
Resized_20161119_124254.jpeg
I've transformed a computer desk into a spray booth, lining paper and cheap LED strips ahoy!
I'd like to fit extraction to it, I'm going to put 6mm ply on the back with a bathroom extractor fan or 2 mounted to it.
Has anyone done this before and will one fan be enough? I only spray acrylics.
What should I filter it through? Can you buy a filter in a housing, will I need 2 stages of filtration? Etc etc!
All advice gratefully received,
Cheers,
Martin

Other than the achievement of building your own. I can't see the point by the time you've bought all the bits and depending on the spec of what you buy you can very easily spend much more than buying a commercially made one.

I paid about £70 for AB500 with LED's and all the extension hose plus fittings, it works perfectly, each to their own though good luck with your project.

I love what you have done so far...keep going!!
There are a few threads on here and lots of internet info when you start searching
People usually get scared off at the sealed motor vs spark initiating open motor fan causing a fire deal.
Good luck, keep posting your progress

biggest problem I came up against was finding a suitable motor cheap enough to make the project a goer.

Cheers guys, some great links there.
There is tons of stuff online but it's sorting the wheat from the chaff really, most of it is how to cobble a fan onto a storage box!
I'm looking for the tech stuff which was in one of Diggers links, cheers!
Kev, them booths are great and I nearly got one but my work bench is small and I use this desk for putting built and WIP parts and general diorama bits on to free up space and having a booth on there permanent would limit my usable space. The inconvenience of folding it away and having nowhere to put it makes it easier for me to try a custom job.

^ That's definitely one way to reuse an old appliance, lol! I don't see the point if you aren't at least trapping the overspray with a filter and a fan. I would choke myself out painting with that thing, lol!

I agree.
Would be super easy to run a hose out the bottom with a fan and make it a down draft vented booth

I ended up getting a small shop vac. The only issue is the noise level. I ended up putting outside the shed in a covered box. Ran the hose inside. I use a fish tank sponge filter on the vent entrance. Works well for me. Though this coming year I should be able to get a patriot spray booth. Yay me. God willing and the sun shines. LOL
