Prep before Ultimate Winter Wash?

I'm looking for some advice with Ultimate Winter Wash. I want to add a pin wash to this model before applying the winter wash but I don't know which one to use. It is painted with German Grey and coated with Future (the pic is before the Future so it is even darker now). I have Ultimate's full wash line.

You'll be ok with Dark Dirt but make sure you gloss again before you put the winter wash on or it will mix. You could even consider doing it the other way round, depends on what effect you want. You'll lose a lot of the pin wash effect if you do it first because the winter wash will sit in the panel lines and recesses - on top of it.

Oops, lol! I did use the dark dirt and some mud before the winter wash but I didn't coat in between. It turned out fine though. I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around the idea of winter wash. Is it supposed to mimic actual camo or snow/ice?

Apply it over a matt coat so it sticks and remove it as you desire

Another oops, LOL! I applied over future. It ended up looking ok. I'll get some pics this evening. Thanks!

Here's how it turned out. Probably under-applied but I'm somewhat satisfied.

I made the video to show the results from using a gloss (Klear) and a sort of mask over a matte.

The matte varnish was AK's Ultra Matte, the few spots that were to be "unwashed" had the Klear painted on and then the winter wash was sprayed on (.4mm needle, 20psi). The spots where Klear was used cleaned up nicely, the areas where the wash went directly onto the matte were not going to give up the last of the wash.
